For many years, the Sheraton had a monopoly of the on-airport hotels. The new Hilton (and neighbouring Hilton Garden Inn) have fixed that very dramatically.
I stayed here as all the hotels in the city centre were full. This was absolutely fine, as the S-Bahn is a short walk from the hotel, and in 15 minutes you are in the financial district of Frankfurt.
The hotel is an architectural wonder, and has won awards for this. It is built on top of the long distance railway station. From my room on the 9th floor, I can see below me 4 train lines and 24 (yes 24!) lanes of heavy motorway traffic. Above me I can see the planes coming into land -- so close, that you can almost touch them from the executive lounge on the 10th floor! However, even with all this traffic the room is absolutely silent. Really! I switched off the air conditioner, and could hear absolutely nothing! I have never experienced such good soundproofing in an airport hotel! It is perhaps a pity that the air conditioner is so loud!
The standard rooms are perhaps a little small, but fine for a one night stay. An excellent shower with plenty of water allowed me to flood the bathroom in seconds due to a poorly fitted shower screen. Otherwise everything a top Hilton standard.
Large executive lounge with good self-serve breakfast. Excellent Hilton scrambled eggs!
After check out, a short walk down two escalators and you are at the train platform. Just a few more steps away is the Lufthansa check in.
