We've stayed for 2 nights at Cristall Hotel and were very pleased, had a new refurbished room on the second floor, very quiet although near traffic and train station. The receptionist who plays bagpipes as well :) recommended us what to visit and which are the best restaurants in town. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed here for one night while moving from Germany back to the US. Chose it mainly for its proximity to the Hauptbahnhof (right across the street) and the price (50 Euro for a double room). I wasn't expecting a whole lot for the price, but was pleasantly surprised.

The first two floors have newly renovated rooms that are very well designed and comfortable. The headboard of the bed functions as a great space-saving area, serving as a closet, dresser, and nightstand. It was snowing very hard all afternoon, so the effective heaters were a plus as well. There's also air conditioning, which is almost unheard of in Germany, but we didn't use it. Bathroom was very nice and spotless (though it could use a small shelf somewhere near the sink). TV had at least two English channels (CNN and Al-Jazeera). Bed was plenty comfortable. The room may technically be small (most European hotel rooms are, you get used to it), but it didn't feel cramped at all thanks to good design.

The man at the front desk was very helpful. He gave us a map and directions to the Weihnachtsmarkt, and ordered us a private cab to take us to the airport the next morning for a set price. Did not try the breakfast as there were so many other options nearby, but for only 5 euro, it's much cheaper than many hotel breakfasts.

Two things to note. 1) The elevator only stops between floors. So stairs are unavoidable. There are a few stairs to get into the lobby, and then stairs down to the elevator. It then stops between floors 1 and 2, and 3 and 4. So if you have a lot of bags (like we did, 8 total), it's a lot of schlepping. 2) There are two hardcore adult channels on the TV. They're free (should you want them), but if you have kids you may want to be aware.

They still use actual keys for the rooms too, no plastic cards. Haven't seen that since childhood, so that was neat.

If I ever have another stopover in Frankfurt, I'd definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Request a renovated room.

We have stayed in this hotel last September.
There was nothing astonishing, however the hotel wa stylish and dignified, a really value for money choice.
It's location was perfect, right next to the railway station. The room was a bit old but very clean and tidy. The stuff was also friendly. The breakfast was magnificent!!! I would dare to say that it competes the breakfast buffet of 5 star hotels. it's buffet offered organic foods (eggs, jam..etc)

The only bizzare in that hotel was the hanging bells at the entrance!!! I suppose they could replace it in a renovation with a motion detector!!!

We stayed at this hotel upon our arrival in Germany for one night and again in a renovated room just before our departure from Germany. What a difference in rooms! Request the renovated room, and a balcony if you can. The staff were helpful, the location is just beside the main train station, and the breakfast was superior, even with a 'organic' section of food. Great find!

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony and a newly renovated room!!! The older rooms are just basic rooms, but the reno...

I found this hotel in HRS and was doubtful about its quality, since it was incredibly cheap and right next door to the Frankfurt Main Train Station. I was pleasantly surprised.

The room was spacious and clean. The bathroom was big enough and clean. They even supplied me with a new and enormous bar of soap--not like the ones you usually get in hotels, rather the size of the bars of soap you would buy for your own bathtup at home. When we checked in they gave us a bottle of water.

The personnel was friendly and competent. And this hotel is THE closest to the Frankfurt train station. My only (mini) criticism is the following: the hotel touts itself to be a "non-smoking hotel". I am a devout and avid non-smoker and I do have to say that our room on the 3rd floor smelled a little bit like cigarette smoke.

The breakfast was, by the way, excellent.

This hotel was acceptable as a crash pad and we were happy that it was completely smokefree -- and for €59 per night for two people, including breakfast, we didn't expect much. We only arrived late in the evening by train almost right next door at the "Hauptbahnhof" (main train station), and left early the next day for the airport, by S-Bahn, also from the train station. The room was very clean but also very dated; the bathroom must have had a recent update (see photo).

Despite the close proximity to the train tracks, we were not disturbed by noise or vibrations. Breakfast was included but food handling was an issue. First, things were insufficiently cooled, for example, yogurt pots sitting out on a table for a few hours (no ice, no refrigeration). Second, the scrambled yet runny eggs were lukewarm and had been standing for a long time at room temperature (no heating). I reported the hotel to the local health department, recommending an inspection. The only item with correct temperature was the coffee.

Funny sidenote: as a "Betthupferl" (candy on the pillow), there was a (chocolate?) bar of "Speed." [Just to be super careful, this was really just harmless candy with an unfortunate name.]

Don't get fooled by the pictures on their website or rather take them with a pinch of salt; maybe some of the rooms look like this, but not all. Methinks the PR person who wrote the copy hasn't been to the hotel.

Besides, we got neither a bottle of water nor were we greeted with a glass of "Winzersekt" (i.e. German champagne); on the contrary, we were greeted after a standing at reception for a good 10-15 minutes, while the person on duty that evening had a heated debate with a tour operator. He apologized, but that situation could've been handled differently.
