“Good value for budget travelling”
Reviewed 24 April 2013

Stayed at the hotel for two nights with my wife. Just a stone's throw from HBF train station. It didnt look dangerous at night. About 15 min walk to Romer square. There's a whole range of asian and middle east restaurants nearby. The buffet breakfast is really good, only 5 euros.

We couldnt get a renovated room, so they gave us one at the 4th floor, facing the street. It had a funny smell, like it was a soming room and they kept putting air refreshers over a long period of time. The double glazed windows provided sound isolation. The room was quite spacious, and a bit dusty, but otherwise fine. Would stay again if back in town. Such a nice city, everything works. Try the sausages at Schillerstrasse market on fridays, delicious!

Room Tip: ask for the new rooms

I was there from 9/4/2013 - 12/4/2013 and it costs for 3 nights 650 € for a single room that should not has more than 15 sqm.

I am 1.9 m height and I DIDN'T FIT ON BED, half of my legs were out.

The hotel is an old building poorly decorated, trying to have fashion style without achieving it.

The breakfast is really really sad and poor.

The water on the shower has not pressure and was really difficult to regulate for getting hot water.

The wc has strange stain under the cover.

Can anybody explain to me why the cost is 215 €/night for this rats hole?

AVOID IT COMPLETELY

We've stayed for 2 nights at Cristall Hotel and were very pleased, had a new refurbished room on the second floor, very quiet although near traffic and train station. The receptionist who plays bagpipes as well :) recommended us what to visit and which are the best restaurants in town. Would definitely stay again.

Stayed here for one night while moving from Germany back to the US. Chose it mainly for its proximity to the Hauptbahnhof (right across the street) and the price (50 Euro for a double room). I wasn't expecting a whole lot for the price, but was pleasantly surprised.

The first two floors have newly renovated rooms that are very well designed and comfortable. The headboard of the bed functions as a great space-saving area, serving as a closet, dresser, and nightstand. It was snowing very hard all afternoon, so the effective heaters were a plus as well. There's also air conditioning, which is almost unheard of in Germany, but we didn't use it. Bathroom was very nice and spotless (though it could use a small shelf somewhere near the sink). TV had at least two English channels (CNN and Al-Jazeera). Bed was plenty comfortable. The room may technically be small (most European hotel rooms are, you get used to it), but it didn't feel cramped at all thanks to good design.

The man at the front desk was very helpful. He gave us a map and directions to the Weihnachtsmarkt, and ordered us a private cab to take us to the airport the next morning for a set price. Did not try the breakfast as there were so many other options nearby, but for only 5 euro, it's much cheaper than many hotel breakfasts.

Two things to note. 1) The elevator only stops between floors. So stairs are unavoidable. There are a few stairs to get into the lobby, and then stairs down to the elevator. It then stops between floors 1 and 2, and 3 and 4. So if you have a lot of bags (like we did, 8 total), it's a lot of schlepping. 2) There are two hardcore adult channels on the TV. They're free (should you want them), but if you have kids you may want to be aware.

They still use actual keys for the rooms too, no plastic cards. Haven't seen that since childhood, so that was neat.

If I ever have another stopover in Frankfurt, I'd definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Request a renovated room.

We have stayed in this hotel last September.
There was nothing astonishing, however the hotel wa stylish and dignified, a really value for money choice.
It's location was perfect, right next to the railway station. The room was a bit old but very clean and tidy. The stuff was also friendly. The breakfast was magnificent!!! I would dare to say that it competes the breakfast buffet of 5 star hotels. it's buffet offered organic foods (eggs, jam..etc)

The only bizzare in that hotel was the hanging bells at the entrance!!! I suppose they could replace it in a renovation with a motion detector!!!

We stayed at this hotel upon our arrival in Germany for one night and again in a renovated room just before our departure from Germany. What a difference in rooms! Request the renovated room, and a balcony if you can. The staff were helpful, the location is just beside the main train station, and the breakfast was superior, even with a 'organic' section of food. Great find!

Room Tip: Ask for a balcony and a newly renovated room!!! The older rooms are just basic rooms, but the reno...
