“Good and clean!!!”

Very clean and nice hotel! Nothing fancy but just nice! Comfortable, bright rooms! For Frankfurt, this place is quite cheap. The location is excellent! Close the river and Old City! The stuff is helpful. I will come back!

I spent a lot of time trying to figure out where to stay in Frankfurt, knowing nothing about it. Sachsenhausen seemed like a good neighborhood that was still authentic and dominated by locals but close to the big trappings if you wanted to get there. Turned out to be the right choice.

The staff was pleasant which is always a good start. The room was clean, comfortable and quiet, albeit a bit dark with strange lighting. I really liked the neighborhood - a great mix of residential, businesses, restaurants and a park across the street. It's a short walk to the river and the life that comes along with this. It was warm when we there and people were sitting on their balconies drinking and having a good time - good vibes.

For getting there, it depends which station you use. Go to Frankfurt Main Sud by bus from the airport or the main train hub HFB, and you will just have a 5 minute walk (or 10 if directionally challenged like my wife and I). I think a lot of people just go the HFB, the main station and walk from there, and that is a bit of a hike and a mistake.

The breakfast buffet was quite good with a server that was a bit of a joker (in a good way).

The hotel is conveniently located to the train station and about 20 minutes from FRA by bus. Room was comfortable, and very quiet. Front desk was extremely pleasant ans helpful. Breakfast was included with our reservation, which was delicious.

We stayed here one night because we were flying out of Frankfurt the next morning. The website implied that it was a little closer to the airport than it actually is - about a 20 minute cab ride. There is public transit but it is not very close by. It is also not close to the downtown area either. The positives about the location were that the area is safe, and there are many different shops/restaurants nearby. There is also a very nice playground directly across the street if you are traveling with children (as we were). The staff was super nice and helpful, and the included breakfast buffet was probably the best we had while in Europe.

The negatives though were the rooms and layout of the hotel. There are technically two buildings that are connected by a long hallway. This is fine except if you are in the second, further away building, and have a bit of luggage (as we did). It means that you have to drag your luggage up and down several sets of stairs to even get to an elevator to get to your room. The room we stayed in was very spacious, which was nice, and there was a large bathroom as well. Everything was super clean. There is no air conditioning though, and seeing as it was a warm day was quite hot and stuffy. My students (I was leading a study abroad trip) had rooms in the first building and said they were extremely small, so I guess size depends on where your room is. The rooms were all pretty outdated - they looked like they had been decorated in the 70s.

Another negative is that internet is not free - it is 12.50 Euro for 24 hours.

So overall the stay was fine, but I would likely not stay here again.

We are the travelling Giebel family and we have travelled to many places in the world and we have lots more to do. However nothing beats travelling to the heart of germany to the city of Frankfurt. Nothing also beats one of the best hotels you could possibly find and that would be the Maingau Hotel Schifferstrasse 38-40, 60594 Frankfurt, Hesse, Germany. It is located in the Sachsenhauen area which is full of history. It has wonderful cafes, bistros and the many Apfelwein pubs that are full of fun ,laughter and song for the locals and wanna be Germans. What makes this hotel wonderful is not the size or fancy rooms or flashy glitter or big name brand. Its the staff of the hotel. Its a small family run hotel who always give you a smile and helpful hint on how to have fun in Frankfurt. They speak english but you should really try to speak German a little. Who cares if you mess up the words and they laugh a little at least you tried. The front desk, the lobby and the rooms are small but it makes for a comfortable feeling of being at home. They have a tiny elevator that fits two which is neat. The restraunt has a wonderful breakfast in the mornings and the chef is great. He will cook your eggs anyway you want and once you order he remembers your order each morning and has them ready. I had my favorite soft boiled. He seems a little gruff but is actually a nice guy. We skipped breakfast one morning and decided to try the cafe on the corner and when we returned the wonderful lady at the desk asked if we were okay. Curious I said yes why do you ask and she said the chef was worried as you did not come for breakfast. Thats service. They even knew the people I was visiting in Frankfurt. One day chatting with one of the ladies at the desk I said oh we visiting my father Norbert Giebel and my uncle Hans Kress from the Bornhiem area and she says I know Hans he runs the market. That made my smile all day. The cleaning staff are excellent and very patient when waiting for you to leave so they can clean. The rooms are small as are the bathrooms but really all your doing is sleeping there so it makes for a comfortable sleep. It also located near the river with many museums and festivals along the river bank in the summer. The transportation system is easy as the bus and train are nearby and they have instructions in english but its best to walk so you do not miss out on all the little things. We come to frankfurt often and now we have found our home away from home. It can get a little loud if you are in the rooms at the back so next time we hope to get our rooms at the front. Again we wish to thank the staff for making our stay happy and wish them a good day every day.

Room Tip: choose a room at the front of the hotel as the back can be busy in the mornings.

This is the third time I have stayed at the Maingau and it never disappoints. Quite simply, it is a superb 3-star hotel. The simple rooms are immaculately clean and the breakfast in the newly renovated dining room is a prefect way to start your day in Sachsenhausen. The staff is friendly and accomodating. What more could you ask?
