Owner description: The only constant in this art exhibition hall is change. There is no permanent exhibition, but constantly changing exhibitions of Antiquity, Old Masters, modern and contemporary art, decorative art and photography.

The Schirn is one of Frankfurts many Art Galleries that have put the city on the Arts map of Europe. Housed in a dedicated modernist museum it is always a joy to visit. The calender of events and shows is always exciting and becomes very busy in the summer months. There is usually two shows on at any one time and "Installations" in the rotunda outside. There is a very popular childrens gallery where staff will occupy your children while you visit the exhibitions.
Great facilities with a wonderful Cafe Bar adjacent to the main entrance.

We are a well travelled and cultured couple with eclectic tastes and open minds. We relish the opportunity to be challenged by art exhibitions and nudged out of our comfort zones. Modern art has a lot to offer and we applaud any exponent who can make us think. However, we recently went to the 'Peace' exhibition at Schirn Kunsthalle and were appalled. The public relies on museum directors to sort the wheat from the chaff but with this exhibition they got it horribly wrong. This exhibition has nothing to do with "How Peace Works" - in fact, it made us rather angry. Paying 9 Euros a ticket for the whole gallery would be fine - as you take the good with the bad in any museum - but 9 Euros for one exhibition which consisted of 5 rooms of complete rubbish is unacceptable. We won't be returning.

We spent few hours to see the 2 sections of this art museum. One section was for the work of Peter Saul; which actually did not match our taste.
The second section was about the theme of "Peace" and included posters, audiovisuals, etc.

There are facilities of lockers and toilets, as well as a cafeteria for drinks and snacks. It took few hours to visit the museum.

This and the Städel Museum on the other side of the Main river are always worth a stop. Check the exhibitions in the newspaper and drop by.

I visited two exhibitions here in the past few weeks, René Magritte and Peter Saul. Both highly enjoyable in a very quiet, still, peaceful and sizeable space, very low pressure and limitless time to absorb and enjoy. Check what's currently showing carefully though because banners may still be outside for a while after specific exhibitions are already over. Would return without hesitation.
