“Unsuitable for business travellers”
Reviewed 18 October 2013

We attended for the Book Fair. The hotel is convenient for Messe exhibition centre, but not much else. It's about a 15 min taxi from the airport, and a 5 - 10 minute walk to the halls. Like everywhere else, it hikes its rates up for the Fair, so you're paying for a 4 star while staying in a 3 star. But it would be a good choice except for their failure to provided internet connectivity. Instead they sell you T-Mobile scratchcards, which are almost useless. They can only be used on one device at a time, only last 24 hours, you have to constantly be retyping the password, but - worst of all - there is a poor signal in most of the hotel.

In my opinion the hotel should warn that it is not suitable for business travellers.

Dear Mr Michael K,

First of all we would like to thank you for your review about your stay during the recent Frankfurt Book Fair.

We understand by your comments that you were satisfied with the hotel services except the internet connectivity. Until now, we understand that the T-Mobile cards have worked properly and the prize for them is reasonable. Unfortunately we are not allowed to offer a completely free internet service which would be much more interesting, of course.

In our opinion it is not only the internet connectivity which constitutes a business hotel but many other points of criticism, of service, etc.

Dear Mr Michael K, the hotel is going to change Internet provider in 2014 and we are convinced to offer a satisfactory solution for all our guests. Hopefully we are going to welcome you again next year at our hotel.

Kind regards,

Anja Ratz & The team of QGREENHOTEL by Meliá

I just got back from a six night business trip in Frankfurt. I've stayed at the Tryp the past three years and continued to stay here with the rebranding to Qube this year. While it is conveniently located to the messe, clean and relatively easy, I was put out by the hotel this year. On my first day of room cleaning, they some how managed to take my t-shirt that was on the bed out with the linens...honest mistake, but with how small the hotel is, you would think they could find my possessions after a day or two. Well, Tues - Sunday they had no luck locating my college tshirt that happens to be irreplaceable. I can't order another because it was custom ordered 15 years ago by my sorority. My fault for bringing something of sentimental value with me to wear at night, but I'm beyond dismayed with this hotel. They had me checking back both morning and night and nobody could help locate the shirt. I have to admit the staff was friendly about it and will reimburse me if I can replace it, which I cannot - I've already been searching the internet. So, it is a convenient location if you're on business at the messe and need a basic place to stay. However, they are exasperating: lost my shirt, wifi didn't work for anyone with consistency, made us become rewards members to check into our hotel rooms early, despite always having been allowed access when it was the Tryp. Also, the gym had a water cooler, but no cups to get water after you worked out - what's up with that? We have a handful of people who stay at this hotel annually and the loss of my shirt and egregious wifi situation are enough to make us want to change to another hotel nearby since there are many.

Dear Bruin,

First of all we would like to thank you for your review even if your stay at our hotel has not been so pleasant this time. We terribly regret the loss of your shirt which results to be irreplaceable. Unfortunately it can happen that laundry which has the same color as the hotel linen is getting mixed up. As laundry is not washed at the hotel, it is really difficult to trace lost laundry. We know that our Front Office and our Housekeeping staff was calling the laundry company every day or even twice a day in order to have news about the lost shirt, obviously without any success. Of course, the only possibility is offering to refund the monetary value of the shirt which cannot replace the sentimental value it has for you.

Regarding Internet, we are happy to tell you that we will have a new provider in 2014 with better conditions for our guests.

Dear Bruin, we apologize once again for the loss of your shirt. We hope to welcome you again or the next Bookfair in 2014.

Kind regards

We found the QUBE staff to be be very kind and helpful. They went out of their way to ensure we were comfortable and well looked after. The breakfast was enjoyable and though not the most amazing breakfast spread, was satisfying. The hotel was close to the airport, and despite not having wifi the 24hr wifi card suited our needs.

I stayed second time in this hotel as it is quite close to the Messe Frankfurt exhibition ground. The rooms are average in decor but little spacious. However during the exhibition time the prices are too steep. Not worth the value if one has to pay more. I had to pay EUR 120 per night incl. breakfast , which is not worth. Last time I stayed in the same hotel during exhibition time at EUR 80 per night incl. breakfast. The breakfast is very good and sumptous with wide variety on offer. It seems that now the hotel is taken over by Hong Kong/China based group hence you see lot of Chinese people in the hotel although originally this hotel belonged to Melia group of Spain. There are lots of restaurants nearby which offer Italian,Thai, Chinese and Japanese cuisine. The reception staff is not very friendly.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the back side as the front side of the hotel faces very busy road.

Dear Guru 52,

Thank you very much for your review and your detailed opinion about hotel service. We are glad to hear that you were repeating hotel visit during your last stay.

Anyhow, we are a little bit surprised by your opinion about prizes during fair periods. The prizes you mention are not high in comparison to similar hotels in the surroundings and considering the situation of the hotel at only five minutes walking distance to the fair ground.
It is true that our concept is changing. We are introducing new elements in ou
r food and beverage offer including Chinese food, even if there are not more Chinese guests than a few months ago. A cooperation with a Chinese group has been started. Nevertheless the hotel is still owned by Meliá group and management has not changed.

Dear Guru 52, we hope to welcome you again to our hotel in the future and thank you once again for your comments.

Kind regards,

Anja Ratz & The Qube Team

Formally the tryp hotel, riddled with mistakes and quirkiness... couldn't find our reservation but tried to hold us to original contract, bad water pressure, rooms hard to unlock, kitchen not open half the time (room service) air conditioning tampered from downstairs, (tried to leave on but kept being turned off) tv turned on at full volume every time. Desk attendants had poor knowledge of surrounding area eg restaurants, mini marts etc
