We had lived at Berger Strasse for almost a year before going here. We had tried to book a table on a few saturdays earlier but we always called too late.

The food and place is awesome, a true Frankfurt experience. Just go there.

Was lucky enough to see this on Yelp and gave it a try! Local neighborhood restaurant. Authentic German menu and experience. Locals loved helping us "American's" with the menu. Everything was delicious! Fun drinks, good beer...inexpensive and a must if you are in Frankfurt!

One of the people in our traveling group has a cousin here. The cousin highly recommended this place and he met us here with his family. This place is a huge restaurant and this particular night (Friday), it was crowded. It’s obviously a very popular place in the area. It is located right on Berger Straße which an area of popular restaurants and bars in Bornheim.

We were a large group so they sat us in the back with a window overlooking a garden area with their outdoor seating. It was a chilly night so we were all happy to be sitting inside. All our food was great and I had a pork knuckle which was just delicious. The meat was tender and juicy with a crispy crust that I enjoyed thoroughly. We, of course, all had their apple wine which wasn’t bad, but I’m more of a red wine fan.

The service was very good. While our waitress was over tasked with keeping up with our large group she was always cheerful and had great recommendations.

I'm a once a month regular here but have never been disappointed. Although it is always busy, the staff always seem to find a table to join. The covered back garden area is heated and offers a great atmosphere all year round. It's not all pork, with dishes varying according to the season but the portions and quality are generally very good. When it gets hectic, sometimes dishes arrive way out of sync. One negative and that is the mashed potato always seems to be from the packet which is not always the case in similar Äppelwoi restaurants.
Well worth a trip.

I must admit, I was expecting a lot more. First, our confirmed booking was nowhere to be found and we were offered a typical table for the random walk-ins, you know, under a tv-set right next to a hot radiator. Fortunately, after a longish talks they we got an acceptable table. The mixup didn't seem to bother the servers, apparently since the restaurant seems to have plenty of customers, apparently more than they can handle. The salads were very fresh and absolutely delicious but the main thing, the pork was not well done, actually one of us got it downright raw. Obviously the cook was just too busy to be able to prepare properly even that kind of basic German dish. Solzer might be better when not so over the capacity, so avoid weekends. Sorry to say, but we left with mixed feelings and bit of a bad taste in our mouths.
