As the transport hub it is excellent, The area around it is not so good but that can be said for railway stations in many major cities.
There are the usual fast food outlets available and in the underground concourse there is a pharmacy that is open extended hours including Sundays.
If using the long distance rail lines its worth noting that it is a terminus station so through trains leave facing the opposite direction to which they arrive.
Most services seem to run with German efficiency and the station announcements on the major routes are made in English as well as German.
I find that the German public transport system is generally complicated but this is about as good as it gets.
