Our visit with 8 colleagues did not start of very well. I made a reservation through the website two evenings earlier which was confirmed by email within only a few minutes later. Upon arrival, the waiter was unable to find our reservation (needless to say, this was out mistake) another waiter was more helpful and placed us in between a group of white-heard seniors. Although they were at least 50 guests in total and we were only eight, we drastically reduced the average age! From there everything went swimmingly, good food as you would expect, speedy service although the waiter apologised several times for the delay due to the group seniors who had decided to finish off their bridge-weekend in this restaurant.

This a a great and typical Frankfurt 'ebbelwoi' restaurant which I can really recommend. And for those who don't like applewine: drink another glass, you will enjoy it and after another few you will appreciate it!

This is a locals' watering hole that particularly attracts a silver-haired demographic. It doesn't pretend to culinary heights or aim to give out-of-towners or non-Germans an unforgettable experience. This is where people go to meet friends, to talk and kick back. It is geared to German-speakers who know what they are ordering and what to expect - and if you fit that profile then it's actually a very nice, unspoiled slice of authentic Gemütlichkeit, amongst the best in Frankfurt. By all means be adventurous if this sounds like an exciting challenge, but please don't think it rude if the waiting staff are not interested in spending time explaining the menu to you or begrudge speaking English - they speedily serve large numbers of local people who order snappily - that's how it works!

Whilst on a short holiday in Frankfurt am Main, I was taken to this amazing restaurant which is covered inside and outside in painted murals. The food I was told was typical of this area of Germany and I was determined to try some. "Handkasse mit musik" is simply a plate of soft cheese, some chopped onions and white vinegar. Delicious, and it is said that the music comes from your digestive tract later. Also "Grunesosse" ( green sauce ) a blend of various green herbs served with boiled eggs and radish. Well worth a try. You can drink the local cider there and have a unusual and reasonable meal in this very busy restaurant.
Well worth a visit

The aesthetically attractive exterior and decor belies the experience to follow. Don't ask any questions about what the dishes are. Be prepared to provide your order quickly. Don't go if you like finesse in your food. Or flavour. The tourists at the next table chose to leave before ordering. Mahlzeit!

Lot of local Germans are spending time together, chatting and joking; has a bit of a village atmosphere. Food is very Germans sausages, and boiled pork, all really good. Perhaps not for those who are trying to loose weight :-)
As the other reviewers said, this is "must experience" place, certainly for the outsiders. If you are local, and grown with these kinds of places, you know what I am talking about. This one is managing to stay true to itself.
