“Great spa experience”

Kaiser Friedrich Therme

Reviewed 1 February 2012

My wife and I visited on a Saturday in Jan 2012. We walked from the train station through the pretty pedestrian area of town to the Therme. We brought our own robes, towels and flip flops from our hotel. Check in was easy and you receive a watch like chip to wear on your wrist to purchse food inside and measure the length of your stay. The chip also serves as a locker key to secure valuables. The changing room is unisex with individual stalls for disrobing. You then proceed to separate male and female shower rooms. After that, it's all mixed nudity and you need to be comfortable with that. The customers were mostly German of middle age with a few tourists. All were very polite and there's no gawking.
The spa was not as large as depicted on the website but very user friendly. We spent a lot of time in the warm pools and saunas. Cooling off required a dip in the main cold pool. Very clean place, great way to spend a cold, rainy afternoon.
When you leave, you pay the costs based on duration.

This bathing complex does not allow bathing suits. I had to endure dissatisfied glances and even verbal comments because I chose to wear a bathing suit. In the end it was a horrible experience which left me very tense. They charge by the hour and for a full hour, even if you run only 5 minutes into the next hour.

We live in Wiesbaden.
We love wellness activities, spas, thermal bathes, hot springs and saunas.

The "Kaiser Friedrich Therme" is for us a benchmark.

We have a frequent visitor account and go there in the cold season whenever possible, at least once a week. And even in summer there are times a visit can be advised.

Why?
1. ambient = roman style bath, nice to look at
2. size = not to big and not to small; perfect guest to size ratio
3. facilities = optimum, all one needs except a open air area (but it's down town!)
4. location = in the heart of the city, easy access and close to bars
5. upkeep = clean and well maintained
Last - not least = staff and service

One more thing: we like most visitors, the ambient seems to foster a friendly human interaction. One is left in tranquility and only few act annoyingly. Yet, a friendly chat is possible without any social infringement.

Have fun and relax

I&M

P.S.
@ our north american friends: this is a textile free environment (it is just how we do it here), but it is possible to wear bathrobes.
