I stayed in this hotel on recommendation of our local business partners. The location is very good, within walking distance to the Kursaal / Theater / city center and on a street with lots of restaurants and cafés.

On the plus side: It is spotlessly clean and modern, the service is friendly and efficient, and I particularly liked the decor of the breakfast room/restaurant. For breakfast you cannot just get regular coffee but also lattes or cappuccino and tea does not come from bags but is the "real thing" and the brand is Eilles which is very good. There is no hot breakfast other than boiled eggs but the quality of cold cuts, cheeses, jams etc is very high. Three soft drinks from the mini bar are free.

On the minus side: I had a single room and it was a single room in the sense that it was very small and featured a single, narrow bed. In a hotel of this kind I would expect a wider bed even in a single room. Also the room was very hot and stuffy (no air-condition) and I kept the big door-like window open all night. As my room faced the street that meant extra noise and I was lucky it being a weekend night with less early morning traffic. The really bad thing was the bathroom - despite also being spotlessly clean, it featured a really bad stench. Imaging Venice at full-moon - something muddy, moldy that must have come from the plumbing. Keeping the door shut helped but it was no fun whilst actually using the bathroom.

I would recommend the hotel for a short business-trip but not for a romantic getaway.

The Hotel de France is a relatively unknown new (or completely reestablished) hotel in Wiesbaden a five minute walk down the Taunusstrasse from the main part of town. I found the hotel through a business partner whose firm has a corporate arrangement with the property.

The Hotel de France is an older hotel that has been completely remodeled and updated in a sort of boutique style (think lots of trendy sleek dark wood in the lobby). The desk staff were great and all spoke perfect English. When I came in the door they automatically saw my business acquintance and just handed me my room key - having figured out who I was without needing to ask. The rooms are European small and more than adequate but not frilly/fancy. There was a plasma TV with an adequate but not overwhelming selection of channels and a bath with a real shower. Our room overlooked the very pleasant courtyard and was absolutely quiet. The view was of the rooftops of adjoining buildings. My only quibble would be that an easy chair in the room would have made a nice addition. There is free wireless internet, but I didn't have my laptop with me so can't comment on the quality. My acquintance says that the hotel had gone through quite a bad time for many years and had a sort of bad reputation, but new ownership anbd a top to bottom remodel has transformed it. Rates were reasonable, and a good value for the money. The room comes with an AMAZING breafast buffet with everything you could possibly want. You can also order specially cooked dishes for a small surcharge, but I was no reason to do so as the buffet have many kinds of meats and cheeses, cold cereal, jams jellies and honey, many breads, fresh fruit, sort of salady things that I didn't explore, etc. Coffee was good and seconds were cheerfully brought. The hotel does have an elevator.

The other side of the building from the hotel houses the Restaurant "M", which is also the breakfast room. It is unclear what the ownership relationship is. Our dinner there was also very nice and I would recommend that as well. Nice food with a modern touch and a very nice deep wine list.

The area of the hotel is full of little galleries and makes for a nice stroll. We felt completely safe when we went for a walk after dinner. The hotel does have parking for a modest daily charge, I would suggest reserving a space when you make your hotel reservations to be sure you can get one.
