From the outside the Grand looks like a relic of DDR era housing, but from the inside it's luckily a standard german business hotel: clean, everything works and the rooms have got the basic necessities. The hotel bar and restaurant are also ok - no surprises.

The hotel is located on the southern edge of Mitte with the central station around 1km away and the nearest tram/metro stop around 200m away. The restaurants and bier gartens are around 200-300 meters away, nothing just downstairs.

For runners there is a good 6km route south just past the city hall and around the Maschsee.

The Staff at the Hotel is very accommodating and very friendly especially the Dining Room Staff!
The Lobby, Restaurant and the Bar are especially nice, but that's were it ends!! The Room's are atrocious by any ones standards!!! The Carpets, Curtains , Doors are much less than clean!! Don't look at the 3 Chairs , you hesitate to relax in either of them!
I don't think I will book into this "Hotel" again!

The positives are the excellent central location, perfect for museums and sight-seeing. Good meeting rooms for business customers. The hotel is looking tired - it's a hideous building. The staff are fairly friendly, though check-in is very slow if a party arrives together.
Rooms - ours (9th floor) was a good size but had no air conditioning. This is a noisy part of town so open windows meant waking early. Bathroon - creaking plastic bath and no extractor so lots of steam.
Breakfast has plenty of choice but the cheapest fruit juice and only jusr acceptable coffee.
Wifi is supplied by an outside company and is expensive - the only free internet services are either 30 mins of wired service or a computer in the business centre. Some free TV channels but many I would regard as standard are charged.

The best thing about this hotel is it's location right by both the Rat Haus, and the old town, five minutes from the main underground station and five minutes from the modern shopping streets. Our room faced the front and had an unforgettable view across the road to the old Town Hall, which is really spectacular. The meals in the restaurant were very good, if a bit pricey and the staff in the restaurant and most of the reception staff were helpful, spoke excellent English and very friendly. The rooms were immaculately clean and the bathrooms were very modern and well fitted out.
However, there are some down sides to be aware of:
- If you have the view of the RatHaus, you also get to hear the traffic noise and the clock chiming every 15 minutes, day and night... Take ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.
- The shower is over the bath and very slippery to stand in, I had a bad fall when I lost my footing getting out.
- The price for rooms and meals goes up dramatically when there are shows or fairs in town. Some increase is fair enough when demand is high but 20 Euros for breakfast and three times the normal room price seems excessive. There are plenty of local cafes etc. to get breakfast or evening meals at a fraction of the price.
- You also have to pay extra for access to Wi-Fi., which is difficult to get working and an additional charge for any non German TV channels on the dated TV.
- The bed was huge but also like sleeping on a trampoline: every time my partner turned over, I felt as though I was being bounced out of bed.
- One of the staff on Reception was most unhelpful to other guests as well as ourselves but she was the only one who was unfriendly and difficult.
Over all, great location but we felt it was expensive for the standard provided.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear of the hotel if you like a more peaceful sleep.

Checking out Friday after staying here 5 nights for the Hannover Messe equipment show. Prepaid the room via expedia.co.uk. for the fair.
The hotel is air conditioned, however, the rooms are not, and we have had a siege of very warm weather this May with 4 days at 83 degrees. Had to sleep with the window open, which helped, however, there is a very loud church bell which chimes on the quarter hour, and really chimes on the hour. The staff(especially Peter on the front desk) has been very helpful, and the internet is fast and fairly cheap(4.95e for 24 hours, less for 7 days). Used the restuarant once, and feel that 20e for breakfast is a bit steep; there is an inside market with several restuarants very near with outragious pastries matched with large coffees or cappachinos that I have used.

We pulled in to good old Hannover late at night. The staff at the Maritim were very helpful and gracious, and easily found us family rooms. The price was remarkably low. This is the best location in Hannover. All of the main town is just "behind" the hotel for a walk in the morning.

This is a really traditional, slightly older hotel (90s?) perfectly maintained and of course spotless. It has wonderful grand carpets, furnishings in the lobby and so on.

We found the breakfast buffet to be very good, and again the price is moderate (be sure to include breakfast).

if you're travelling the length of Germany -- Europe, really -- on the A7 on a big drive, Hannover is the perfect choice to stopover, too. Hannover is of course historic, not too big, not too small, and well situated.

it's terrific to stay at a "traditional" slightly "old-fashioned" hotel .. great stuff. Thank you for the perfect service, Maritim staff!

Room Tip: Value is great, so pay a little more for a better room. Get a view of the awesome town hall across i...

It was not easy to rate this hotel because:
+ the location is good, there is the New Town Hall with its beatiful park just across the street, you need about 15 minutes of walking to get to the main city centre
+ rooms very spacious, with a nice view, they were clean
+ tasty breakfasts
+ there was a nice place called "Cafe am Kamin" with I liked the most there, very cosy

- rooms hadn't been renovated for quite a long time, definitely too long time - it makes a very bad impression
- also the window was very old - the room became cold quickly, but luckily the heating worked very well, so it was not a problem. The problem was noise when the roadworks at 5 am begun; it wouldn't have been as bad as it was, if the window had been exchanged for a new one
- expensive parking - prepare yourself for 18 EUR per day
- no free W-LAN

+/- I can't say, that the staff at the reception desk was not polite, but they didn't make a friendly impression. But the was one exception - a woman who welcomes at the restauarant in the morning was very nice and helpful, so that I remember her very well.

Room Tip: Tip for winter: Put on the heating before you go out, so that you have a warm room in the evening
