“Take your ear plugs if you want to sleep”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

I stayed here for four nights on a tour. Arrival was quite late and so I did not notice the noise until I went to bed. My room was on the front facing the Town Hall and the four lane highway outside. The clock chimes every fifteen minutes throughout the night and as there is no sound proofing it seemed as though it was on my bed-side cabinet. The traffic noise was also horrendous. Fortunately I did have ear plugs and eventually got to sleep but was awakened at 5 a.m. by the noise and the clock. Needless to say I asked to be moved to a room at the back of the hotel which was quieter but still had chiming from a church clock but it was further away and not so loud.
The room was very dated with carpet threadbare in places and a cracked wash stand and bath in the bathroom. Needs complete re- furbishment.
The breakfast was adequate except when there was another group there as nothing was replaced and had to ask for bread and croissants and juice used up and not replenished.
We had two dinners here which were pretty dire especially the one evening when I took something labelled "fish" with lemon which turned out to be chicken. The alternative available was chicken.
Staff were friendly on the whole and no complaints there.
I did notice that the rooms downstairs facing the Town Hall and the road were quiet. It is as if the public rooms mattered but not the clients' bedrooms.
I have stayed in Maritim hotels in Dresden and Nuremburg with which I was perfectly satisfied but not this one.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel if sleep is more important than the view

We spent one week in this very well located and stylish clean hotel.
Our room was clean and comfortable, breakfast great, staff was helpful and we could sit and relax in its comfortable armchairs.
The two only things we would comply about are:no AC despite the very hot weather.Rooms were sort of sauna, particularly the ones exposed to sunshine all afternoonand there was no free wifi.
The dinning room staff was friendly and always ready to bring you whatever you needed.
No problems with the two big lifts,

Room Tip: Choose the ones which do not receive sunshine in the afternoon, at least in the Summer. It is impossi...

We spent 5 nights at the Maritim Hotel in Hannover as part of a large group. The hotel accomodations were fine except they did not have a/c in the rooms and it was VERY warm We finally were able to get a small fan --- some people were able to get portable a/c units. If you plan to be there during the summer and they have a warm/hot streak, than you will not be comfortable for sleeping. Wonderful breakfast. Wifi is not free and the TeleKom Hotspot you pay for is sporadic. The location is perfect --- right across the street from the beautiful Town Hall and easy walk to the Old Town, train station, and Opera House.

Room Tip: Ask for a room where the windows open all the way up --- not just a small section of the top!!

From the outside the Grand looks like a relic of DDR era housing, but from the inside it's luckily a standard german business hotel: clean, everything works and the rooms have got the basic necessities. The hotel bar and restaurant are also ok - no surprises.

The hotel is located on the southern edge of Mitte with the central station around 1km away and the nearest tram/metro stop around 200m away. The restaurants and bier gartens are around 200-300 meters away, nothing just downstairs.

For runners there is a good 6km route south just past the city hall and around the Maschsee.

The Staff at the Hotel is very accommodating and very friendly especially the Dining Room Staff!
The Lobby, Restaurant and the Bar are especially nice, but that's were it ends!! The Room's are atrocious by any ones standards!!! The Carpets, Curtains , Doors are much less than clean!! Don't look at the 3 Chairs , you hesitate to relax in either of them!
I don't think I will book into this "Hotel" again!

The positives are the excellent central location, perfect for museums and sight-seeing. Good meeting rooms for business customers. The hotel is looking tired - it's a hideous building. The staff are fairly friendly, though check-in is very slow if a party arrives together.
Rooms - ours (9th floor) was a good size but had no air conditioning. This is a noisy part of town so open windows meant waking early. Bathroon - creaking plastic bath and no extractor so lots of steam.
Breakfast has plenty of choice but the cheapest fruit juice and only jusr acceptable coffee.
Wifi is supplied by an outside company and is expensive - the only free internet services are either 30 mins of wired service or a computer in the business centre. Some free TV channels but many I would regard as standard are charged.

The best thing about this hotel is it's location right by both the Rat Haus, and the old town, five minutes from the main underground station and five minutes from the modern shopping streets. Our room faced the front and had an unforgettable view across the road to the old Town Hall, which is really spectacular. The meals in the restaurant were very good, if a bit pricey and the staff in the restaurant and most of the reception staff were helpful, spoke excellent English and very friendly. The rooms were immaculately clean and the bathrooms were very modern and well fitted out.
However, there are some down sides to be aware of:
- If you have the view of the RatHaus, you also get to hear the traffic noise and the clock chiming every 15 minutes, day and night... Take ear plugs if you are a light sleeper.
- The shower is over the bath and very slippery to stand in, I had a bad fall when I lost my footing getting out.
- The price for rooms and meals goes up dramatically when there are shows or fairs in town. Some increase is fair enough when demand is high but 20 Euros for breakfast and three times the normal room price seems excessive. There are plenty of local cafes etc. to get breakfast or evening meals at a fraction of the price.
- You also have to pay extra for access to Wi-Fi., which is difficult to get working and an additional charge for any non German TV channels on the dated TV.
- The bed was huge but also like sleeping on a trampoline: every time my partner turned over, I felt as though I was being bounced out of bed.
- One of the staff on Reception was most unhelpful to other guests as well as ourselves but she was the only one who was unfriendly and difficult.
Over all, great location but we felt it was expensive for the standard provided.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the rear of the hotel if you like a more peaceful sleep.
