As i sad in the title, it's an IBIS Budget, don't expect the Ritz. It's welcoming, it's got a bed and a shower, although the towels were very thin....you get what you pay for. The receptionist was helpful, even though I don't speak German....so yes 3 out of 5 is fair.

The Good
The shower was good and powerful with plenty of hot water, and the checkin process very simple. The location is ideal if you're travelling via the motorway a few hundred meters away. There is plentiful free parking, however I'd make sure you secure your vehicle as security does seem lacking. The room and its linen were clean and fresh.

The Bad
Road noise is terrible, the a/c didn't work (so you had to have the window open) and theres no privacy for showering. The beds are very close together, which may suit a couple, but when you're travelling with your nephew, it was a little too 'intimate' for our liking. The rooms are very small with no where to sit except on the bed, so using the tiny desk/table is out of the question for anything but storage. No tea/coffee facilities made it essential to use the vending machines in the reception area and theres no-where to eat locally with 1 exception, so choice is extremely limited.

Room Tip: Try to get a room away from the roads

I am giving fitness classes in Aachen coming from Antwerp each week. This IBIS is just around the corner from the studio. I was welcomed friendly and given a nice and quiet room. Service was excellent!
