We stayed at this hotel in Oct/2012. It is a small family run hotel with a difference. The people running it definitely know what they are doing. The room was lovely and cosy with good heating facilities and the bathroom was spotless. The bed was comfortable too. But the star event is the breakfast, from the decor to the way it is set out. There is a good choice for everyone with the usual eggs, cold meats, cheese, breads etc..... for traditional eaters to various mediterranean delights for those who are adventurous. A perfect start to the day. We would definitely recommend this hotel to others. It is only a ten minute walk to the town which is a plus. Try Aachen Brauhaus for dinner (typical good german food) or Basitos for tapas.

Don't be deceived by the exterior of this nice hotel. The family running it will make your stay pleasant and the bedrooms are all clean and nicely furnished. Breakfast was simply excellent! More than the average for the price. I'll be back!

The staff here are very nice indeed but the room was not good at all. It was the size of a decent bathroom and the bed was atrocious. They compensate by providing a great breakfast but that single room left much to be desired. No English channels on the TV except CNN. That's the case with a lot of German hotels though. Had a rough night at this place and wouldn't recommend it. Shame though really because it's well situated, within walking distance of the center of Aachen.

I stayed at the hotel Granus for 2 nights. The 1 person-bedroom is really large, very clean, comfortable and well-equiped. Herr Berrens uns the hotel with thoughtfulness and elegance, he and his wife work very hard in the morning for you to enjoy a great breakfast (even for Germany, it is much better than average) in a lovely room. The place is located 10 mn away from the centre, but very close to the Carolus Thermen. The street is a bit noisy, but the double windows are efficient. A very enjoyable place.

The hotel is very close in walking distance to the city center and to the famous City Spa "Thermalbad" which is a great plus. As a guest of the hotel you can benefit of reduced rates if you visit the Spa which is roughly less than a 10 minute walk away.
A little drawback is that the parking lot is not included into the price and you will need to pay an extra 10 EUR to keep your car in semi-protected space away from the street. However, you can circumvent this by searching for a parking which can either be found quickly or sometimes be a bit more time-consuming.
The hotel is tidy and very well looked after, so are the rooms. The breakfast room next to reception is smallish but very cosy. Breakfast is typically German but top of the top with fresh bakeries, delicious fruits, cheese, home-made jam and German sausages. Service is excellent and provided by the hotel-owner and his wife himself. They are without doubt doing all to please their guests, They keep running for you to serve you quickly, asking you if you still want more of their delicious breads and more great food and always ready to helping you out. Politeness and a high sense of diplomacy to meet the client's demands are making this couple of hotel-owners one of the great exceptions I have met during my travels in different countries.

Room Tip: just ask the hotel owners.
