The small hotel is centrally located in Cologne's old town and has very clean and comfortable rooms. Unfortunately mine was a bit smelly and leaving the window open for a while didn't really help. The shower had a neat but impractical design, as you had to be careful to not get everything wet while taking a shower. There is no elevator, but having only hand luggage, that was no problem.
Breakfast was actually quite nice and the egg I was offered was brought perfectly hot and tasty to my table. Interestingly, after asking if they had latte macchiato, the girl at the bar said yes, however served me a regular cup of coffee with cream on the side. Then I discovered that my neighbours had some Earl Grey in a pot. Hence I asked for some Earl Grey and surprisingly she served me Darjeeling. Might not have been her day. Well at least the egg was good, she was generally helpful and had a cheerful smile. All in all, for the price and location offered the hotel is a good deal. Due to the little imperfections I can't rate it with five points, but it's well worth four.

Room Tip: take a lower floor with lots of luggage

A small hotel in the centre of Cologne, just 10 minutes walk from the main railway station & the Cathedral. Very helpful directions from the owners, including how to arrive by U-Bahn if carrying a lot of luggage. Excellent English spoken at reception by very helpful staff. Rooms are quite small & the wet room can get a bit, er, wet if you're not careful ! Free Wi-Fi, nicely decorated clean rooms, pretty quiet location. Lovely breakfasts in a nice airy room served by a very sweet French girl called Baptistine.

Everything is as described here. It's very central but also very quiet. Rooms are comfortable and recently decorated. The aircon was particularly welcome during a hot few days in July. Our post-8 pm arrival was no problem at all. Staff were all very welcoming and did all they could to help us enjoy our stay. Two highlights: the breakfast (make sure you try the home-churned butter) and the helpful daily news/weather sheet, with its recommendations for places to visit and to eat. Highly recommended.

Very centrally located, just a few blocks from the central station, most museums and the cathedral. Adjacent to the city’s main shopping street, various tram lines, etc.

Recently renovated throughout and stylishly decorated in mid-century modern (Eames chairs, walnut surfaces, etc.). Only 8 rooms, so guests are treated with personal attention and attentiveness by the friendly owners and staff. Free high-grade wi-fi. Breakfasts are of a high order and include cooked eggs and a variety of other special foods. No lift, but help is offered with carrying baggage up to one of two floors. Shower allows easy access for the disabled, but our room was not appropriate for a wheel chair, and even the seriously disabled would have to walk up stairs to one's room.

It is imperative to reserve a room early from the facility's website, as my wife and I did, because the rooms otherwise will be booked. Hotel seems to be continually full. Not sure that the hotel has a/c; you'd have to ask. We were nevertheless comfortable during warm weather.

Small intimate hotel which is big on customer service. From the moment you arrive everything has a personal touch, Michael and Manfred, the owners, make you feel very welcome. Staff are also very helpful and the breakfasts are as filling as you want them to be. Tucked away just around the corner from one of the main sqaures you're only a short walk away from the historic cathedral in one direction and the Rhine in the other. Perfect central location and modern, clean rooms, nothing negative to say about it, would certainly book here again or recommend to anyone looking for somewhere to stay in the City.

From the directions sent in advance—6 steps complete with photos for the walk from the rail station, it was clear that the staff provides personalized attention. (By the way, I’m not sure we could have found the hotel otherwise on our initial approach.) The hotel is 8 rooms on 3 floors, steps from historic cobbled passages and plazas with statues, the iconic Dom, and the Rhine River, yet it is secluded from the crowds on a quiet street. It is a short walk to the rail station and a convenient base for excursions by train or boat in the Rhine and Mosel valleys. The hotel has a sense of history, but the rooms have modern and stylish fittings (check out the futuristic shower drain that works perfectly!). The staff takes care to meet any of your individual needs, and Michael and Manfred were helpful and patient in orienting us to the rail system and giving touring advice. The breakfasts were lovely, with locally sourced ingredients and daily tweaks, and a newsletter in German and English with suggestions for interesting sites and restaurants is found on the tables. We were in room 7, a suite which has views of picturesque rooftops and sounds from the Rathaus bells. The upper level of the room would be charming in cooler weather. We actually changed the dates of our planned trip for when rooms would be available in Stern am Rathaus, and it was worth it!
