“So much to see!”
Reviewed 4 July 2014

This zoo is perfect. Even if you're visiting without children, it's totally worth your time. It's huge! There is so much to see. We visited on a warm late-spring day, and the animals were all active, which is very important, as sometimes you can find yourself in a zoo staring at empty cages or at a sleeping animal. We talked to some people next to the tiger cage and they told us they are frequent visitors, and that the tigers are always very active.
We also came across a show of bird-training with a very friendly parrot who flew from side to side very close to our heads.
The zoo grounds are just so big, and with every corner you turn, you realize there is more to see. The resting zones are also very spacious and comfy, and food and drinks are not expensive. Worth a day of visit for sure!

“It's worth every cent!”
Reviewed 1 July 2014

The biggest zoo I've been to so far. It hosts tons of exotic and less exotic animals, all of which are in spaces designed to be as close to theis natural habitat as possible! The ticket costs around 18 euro, but it's worth every cent, since it takes more than 2 hours to see everything, plus you also get to see their beautiful aquarium. Last but not least, there's a little train that takes you from the Dom to the zoo and back every, I think, half an hour!

“What a wonderful zoo”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

Animals are beautifully displayed in open and impressive environments. The Elephant and Primate exhibits are particularly good. A 'must see' if you are in Cologne.

“Wonderful animal environment in a city”
Reviewed 30 June 2014

A lot of animals but not great species diversity, well-laid-out in an environment designed to maximize an enriched habitat for the animals. Zoo management has also made every effort to ensure visitors have unobstructed views of the animals (few 360 cages) so you can experience the animals without obvious obstruction. One element we enjoyed was that those animals which are not solitary in nature were always paired with at least one of its kind--certainly a humane approach that should be copied by other zoos.

The zoo is laid out in a series of ingenious switchbacks that make you think it is a much larger area while allowing for maximum space for the animals. The animals seemed healthy and in good spirits, a huge plus in a day when these venues offer safe habitat for endangered species. A glorious way to spend a couple of hours.

This is a city zoo so we walked from the Cologne Cathedral to it along the waterfront; it took about thirty minutes.

The guidebook said it would take about two hours to get through but we enjoyed ourselves enough to spend most of the day. We will most definitely return to visit on our next trip to Cologne.

“Good Zoo and nice day trip”
Reviewed 22 June 2014

We were staying in Dusseldorf but it's only 20 minutes on the train then a quick tram ride to Cologne Zoo! The station is called Zoo and is right outside the entrance.

The cost is around €17 for an adult and the Zoo is pretty big so it takes a while to get around, which is good to pass the time. Lots of animals to see and their enclosures were all well maintained and they all seemed quite happy actually, apart from the sleeping ones! We did arrive at feeding time and the Baboon feeding was very interesting to see!
