“Worth a visit”
Reviewed 21 August 2014

The museum tells the story of the Gestapo prison that was located in the basement and the upper level portrays the rise of national socialism in Cologne. It is hard to believe that hundreds of people died in the courtyard of the building and that brutal interrogations were conducted in the basement - but that is the reality. As others have mentioned, the upper level has no English so buy the audio guide.

“Very good exhibition. Get the audioguide.”
Reviewed 19 August 2014

Very good exhibition about the Nazi period in Cologne. Chilling visit to the gestapo prison cells.
Get the audioguide - very informative and only 2 euros. Also, the upstairs exhibition doesn't have much English so the guide is well worth it.

“Chilling”
Reviewed 18 August 2014

Absolutely heartbreaking to read some of the stories here, god bless the people that suffered and died at the hands of the Gestapo. A must visit but do something positive afterwards, we put a lock on Hohenzollern bridge.

“Deeply moving museum”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

One of the most evocative, moving museums I have ever visited. An absolute bargain at 6,50 euros (with audio guide - needed if you are not fluent in German). The starkness of the building adds the horror of the information you learn. An astounding memorial to the forgotten people taken by the Gestapo. Begin the tour at the top levels to follow the rise of the Nazis in Cologne and track the journey into terror as you end up in the basement and see the heartbreaking inscriptions from prisoners on the cell walls.

Don't rush through this museum give it the time it deserves. You can easily spend 3 hours there if you are listening to the audio guide and the depth of information given is incredible.

“Very impressive museum; phenomenal level of detail”
Reviewed 15 August 2014

Moving and matter of fact portrayal of Cologne's Gestapo headquarters in the basement, combined by an impressively detailed museum of documents, personal accounts and photographs related to the rise of the nazi movement both in Cologne and all of Germany.
