Very well placed for public transport , 2 mins walk from UBanh & 7 mins to SBahn where trains take you directly to Koln & Dusseldorf airports. An easy 10 mins walk into centre through a smart area of bars & restaurants. Rooms are all individual and furnished with antiques, staff very helpful .

After our stay I sent the feedback email shown below and didn't get a response.

Hello,

We thought you might like some feedback on our stay at your hotel last weekend.

We liked your hotel very much. It is such a nice change from the big company hotels. The staff at reception were all very helpful and pleasant. It was a pleasure to have breakfast in such tranquil surroundings. The room (number 63) and view exceeded our expectations.

Unfortunately the hot water broke down on the Sunday. That is not very convenient when you have just run a marathon. These things can happen but we think you could have made the situation better, even if the hot water couldn’t have been restored any earlier. When we checked out at 10:00 we were told the hot water had been back since 09:30. It would have been appropriate to ring us in our room and tell us that hot water was available, especially as we had already asked earlier about the situation. It would also have been appropriate to have made some gesture to recognise the inconvenience caused to us.

We hope these comments are helpful.

Room Tip: Rooms numbered in the sixties are on the 6th floor and you have to walk upstairs from the 5th floor.

We reserved two rooms for three nights and were only able to stay one night due to the poor air quality in the rooms. I have no idea what hotel the other reviewers were staying at, but even on its best day, this property does not rate a 4 or 5 rating. I will say the hotel is unique, it is clean and well maintained, the staff were very helpful and friendly, and the breakfast buffet was very good which is why I did not rate it lower. I will not speculate as to the source of the "allergic" reactions experienced by 2 members of our party, but it was definitely associated with the rooms. We moved to another hotel the next two nights and did not have any further issues.

Room Tip: Stay at another hotel

This is a small to medium-sized hotel on Cologne's Ringstrase, about 15 minutes walk along quiet and safe streets from the central station. It was ideal for our purposes, namely a five-night city break with an emphasis on visiting the Christmas markets. Our room on the first floor overlooked the Ringstrasse itself, but was well soundproofed and we heard absolutely no traffic or indeed any other kind of noise. For a city-centre hotel in this price bracket, i.e. mid-range, I would say that the room itself was of a good size, albeit there was not a great deal of storage space, and the décor, despite the name of the hotel, was somewhat bland, with a horrible painting above the bed. Room and bathroom cleaning was excellent, and we always had enough soap (unlike some grander hotels we have stayed in). The buffet breakfast in the comfortable breakfast room was everything I would expect for Germany, that is to say, a selection of fruit, bread, cold meat and cheese, and most importantly, it being December, Stollen! There was also egg, bacon and sausages to fortify you against the rather chilly weather. Coffee came in an insulated jug so it stayed hot right through to the end of the meal (this has been a particular bug-bear of mine in other hotels).

If I had to name one criticism - and it is not the hotel's fault - it is that there is not a direct public transport link to the station and cathedral for when you are bored with the walk, or when the weather is bad. There is a U-Bahn station a few yards away, but to get to those places you have to go one stop and change on to another line, which can actually mean, if you are unlucky in your timing, that it can be quicker to walk. Also the ticketing for the public transport takes some getting used to, but works well when you have figured it out. Just make sure you have plenty of coins - most of the ticket machines don't take notes.

Overall I would recommend the hotel as long as you don't want to stay in the hurly-burly of the city centre with the crowds (and beggars).

Room Tip: Only one lift, so try and get a room low down so you can use the stairs when busy.

This is a cozy hotel and quite centrally located. Most of the rooms are decorated with antique furniture. Excellent breakfast. The only drawback is that you couldn't get anything to eat in the evening, but there's lots of restaurants in the same street, so it wasn't really a problem. Excellent value for money.

This is a super hotel and would have earned a five star from us excepting the following comments

Beds were uncomfortable
The junior suite did not have elevator access

The staff are professional and excellent. We asked the lady in the evening for an authentic German meal and were directed to a super pub/restaurant.

Room Tip: If booking a suite, be prepared to walk up a flight with your luggage.

We stayed three nights and the hotel is very clean with an attentive staff, especially Selvia (she was very pleasant, helpful, and is a great asset to the hotel) who was our hostess for breakfast each morning. The hotel rooms are small, but nicely decorated in antiques with very thin pillows. It is located about a 15 minute walk from the central train station, which is next to the Dom (cathedral) and a must see in Cologne. Also, it is a 45 minute train ride to the Dusseldorf airport (10.80 Euros).
