Driving in Cologne is a nightmare so this hotel is ideally located close to the ring road and next to the mainline tram stop in to the city. Leave your car at the hotel in the underground car park, the tram system is regular and efficient. The hotel was adequate and typically German (clean, modern, functional) but lacked some personality; the staff were friendly and efficient.

Room tip: Ask for an upgrade to the 14th floor as the view is fantastic. We paid an extra €30 for two nights which also included a free mni-bar!

Stayed at the Ameron last year at the same time of year and would stay again. No problems at all, good breakfast, easy to get to town and also the exhibition centre. Tram stop just round the corner. Eat in the hotel one evening which was fine too.

Room tip: They say it's worth booking through their own website as it's the cheapest.

Me and my boyfriend stayed at the Ameron Regent in December for the Christmas markets. It was a very nice clean hotel, and the staff were extremely friendly. We only had breakfast in the hotel, which was very nice and they had a wide variety of food. There was a nice gym and a good sauna. The only thing I would say is that we had a member of staff come into our room in the mornings to check it was cleaned properly as they had a new member of staff, which was very annoying and completely unnecessary. The hotel is in a good location with plenty of trams about. 15 minute tram ride from main shops and The Dom Cathedral,as well as the Christmas markets.

My husband and I stayed here for the one night we were in Cologne. It was further from the train station than we expected so we got a taxi which cost about €15.

Check in was easy and the staff were polite. There isn't anything in the minibar of the room but apparently you could buy stuff downstairs. There is also a restaurant downstairs but we didn't try it.

They had wireless Internet but you had to pay for it and I couldn't get it to work on my iPhone. If you had a laptop you could plug it in at the desk.

There was a desk and tv in the room and a cupboard for storage, also a couple of chairs. The room was a good size and the bathroom was nice and clean.

There wasn't anything that bad about this place other than the lack of wifi, but there wasn't anything in particular which would make me go back either.

We choose the Ameron as a middle hotel in a 5 day trip for 2 nights. The welcome was very warm and they made a big fuss of my 6 year old, which was great as she was a little tetchy from the journey :)
We had 2 twin rooms on the 10th floor and it was very quiet. The main road below is a little noisy if you have the windows open but it is a main thoroughfare so is to be expected, and the tram is very convenient.
Everything was spotlessly clean and the rooms were a good size. White Company toiletries in the bathrooms. There was nothing I didn't like and for the price we paid (about £70 prpn) I thought it was excellent.
