We stayed for 2 nights during our city trip of Koln.

+++:
- Breakfast: a lot of choices, fresh and jummy
- Location: not in the busy centre, but close to a metro station. Vibrant area with lots of bars, restaurants, ...
- Clean

---:
- Old fashioned rooms: no airco, no safe, no fridge, ...
- A lot of small steps to take with your suit cases: not ideal for back patients
- The awful pillows! BRING YOUR OWN! Even with 2 pillows and the duvet it was horrible.

The best feature of this hotel is its location: close to Rudolfplatz, surrounded by restaurants, bars etc.
We had a room on the first floor - it can get a little noisy. The furniture seemed pretty old, but everything was renovated and clean. No mini-fridge or air conditioning.
Breakfast was okay, with enough options. The personnel were nice and helpful.

Room Tip: Higher floors - less noise

Modern hotel in good location, near to the city. Parking direct in house, you have to pay 14 Eur for one day. Breakfast simple but ok, problem for me was to pay for wi-fi. Very friendly personal at desk.

The "Flandrische Hof" does not present itself as a traditional hotel building,but is made up of several apartment buildings,that were inter-connected and converted into hotel rooms with many different room layouts,thus creating a labyrinth of more secret passages,short stairs and hidden elevators (even a 5th floor,that is higher than a sectional 6th floor) than a German medieval castle.Don't forget your GPS.The "Flandrische Hof" is not located in the centre of Cologne,but next to the Ring Road,that circles the city core Rhine River to Rhine River,at a section called the "Hohenzollern Ring".This location is ideal for a car-less Cologne (Köln) visit.Just around the corner is the "Rudolfplatz",where many subway,streetcar and bus lines intersect.From there its only minutes to the countless attractions,that Cologne has to offer.The famous cathedral,the "Kölner Dom",the Rhine River Promenade and several museums can also be reached on foot in approx. 20-25min.Check-in is quick and professional.The hotel has no restaurant,but it is surrounded by many eateries,from a German Brew Pub (Brauhaus Pütz),to All-you-can-eat Sushi,to Thai,to Italian,to Sport Bars,etc.The hotel has a very good breakfast buffet,served in a large and bright room,that overlooks a patio (open for breakfast,weather permitting) with its own mini duck pond.Excellent service from a hard-working group of ladies. The buffet is not included in the room rate.The clean rooms (incl.a wardrobe,shelf space,a small writing table and a flat screen TV),are nicely laid out.There was a small,but modern bathroom with a shower stall (very limited shelf space).The rooms are made up daily by another hard-working team of ladies.The pillows on the beds were horrible,and must be the worst,I ever put my tired head on.They seem to have no volume and collapse almost into nothing,when being used.If you have traveled in Asia or North America,you will miss the bar fridge,an in-room safe (a limited number of free safety deposit boxes are available at the reception),free local telephone calls,a free box of paper tissues,bottles of free mineral water and a free newspaper in the room).The hotel fronts not only one,but 2 streets,side street the "Flandrische Straße", and the main road,the "Hohenzollern Ring".The quiet rooms are facing the courtyard between the 2 rows of apartment buildings.The hotel has only paid WiFi,very expensive at 5 Euros for 24 hours (can be used over 48 hours).

I stayed here on business in May 2014. Based on previous reviews of noise, I asked to be placed on higher floors, and was placed on the 4th floor. I experienced zero noise, and had a very peaceful sleep. Best points: excellent shower with superb power and lots of hot water, good breakfast with many options, clean and crisp bed linen. Bad points: awful pillow with no volume. Overall, I will happily stay here again. Good location, between Dom/central shopping district and university area.
