Good service and breakfast, efficient personnel. The location is fantastic, because is very close from a lot of pubs, restaurants, commercial area, etc. Besides, the cathedral is only about twenty minutes.

The hotel is tired. When I arrived there were a number of guests making complaints at reception. This resulted in a very long delay to check in. From what I understand,in all fairness to the hotel, the complaint that was most protracted was not justified. An Indian man was trying to get the hotel to agree to him paying for a single room but have a guest visit him and stay the night. Most people pay for a twin room in this event, however he could not understand why he could just pay for one person and the guest visit him. These types of scams never cease to amaze me. Eventually I got checked in. The delay was about 30 minutes. The room was tired, but reasonably clean. The location was also quite central. The staff in the hotel were not particularly welcoming and did seem to enjoy making fun of some of the guests. They were not really professional in this respect. Breakfast was total chaos. Many items were not available. I asked for coffee and was given a coffee pot from another table with a half a cup in it. It was impossible to find anyone at breakfast in order to remedy the situation. The hotel know that they have a problem with breakfast. A notice in the lobby advises customers that at busy times the standards of service may fall below acceptable at breakfast. I would imagine they expect guests to get up at 06.30 and go to breakfast in order to obtain reasonable service. This is not really the way to run a business. Another concern that I had and I have written about this before when in Dortmund is the question of refugees staying in the hotel. Koeln like Dortmund is in the NRW state. NRW has a larger number of refugees than many of the other states except for Hamburg and Hessen. The local government house refugees in some of the tourist hotels as they probably get a better price for the rooms. Whilst the situation at the Leonet was not as bad as in Dortmund with the refugees approaching guests for money and taking food, cooking pots and cutlery from the restaurant, there was a particular person who stared a lot at guests and acted suspiciously. There were warnings in the rooms to use the safe deposit boxes and not to leave valuables out.It can make one feel a little nervous whilst staying at the hotel. My advice to hotels thinking of making a buck housing the refugees is decide,do you want to make your living through the state and the need to house refugees. If yes, then stick to that field. Or do you want to excel in offering good value and service to customers then excel in that field. This hotel currently does not excel in any field currently. The walls in the rooms are also very thin indeed. This resulted in poor sleep quality. You can hear everything. I was disturbed at 3am.

Room Tip: If you can ask for a room with minimal noise transference if one exists. Go to breakfast at 06.30. P...

At about 35 EUR for a single room... I couldn't expect much.

The hotel is very 70s in its style and decoration, and it looks like it has never been refurbished. But contrary to some previous comments, I found the place (at least my room/bathroom) really clean and well maintained.

Staff at check-in and restaurant is very nice and friendly... which is not really always the case in Germany, specially in cheap places.

Wifi works very well. Location is slightly off the very center (cathedral and train station), but still you can reach almost anything by just walking.

Definitely recommended if you just want a cheap, friendly and clean place where to crash at night while in Koln.

We stayed in this hotel at the Karneval in Köln, the hotel is near the city center and not very far from a train/bus station (Rudolfplatz).
The rooms are small, we stayed in a quad. room, but in general the space was enough for us four, we also found Haribo on the bed (really nice detail!) the bathroom is from a good size, but caution when you take a shower, because you will kind of make a mess.
Beds are really confortable, and in the room you can find a TV (which channels in different languages) and a security box (not very big).
The breakfast is nothing special (tipic german breakfast) but most of the times it is free and you can get energy for the day.
They have different types of jam (not sure the name) and cheese. They have cereal, yogurt, fruit, juice, marmalade, milk, boiled and scrambled egg and bread. (They also have Philadelphia cheese, my favorite!)
The persons in the reception speak english and they are really nice.

Booked this hotel on Expedia. It was the cheapest hotel that had a good proximity to the city. The hotel is pretty decent. The hotel staffs were extremely friendly and helpful. Our room was clean and in order. It had a good TV but no extra’s such as kettle, tea etc.

Breakfast was really good too. Well worth it.

The only negative I can give to this hotel is that the doors are a little bit thin. We had a bunch of guys who decided to have a bit of a party in our corridor. We were awoken a couple of times from clanking beer bottles and ranting. We had to call reception to tell them to go quieten down.
Apart from that – all is good overall. Highly recommend if you are on a short trip to Cologne!

Small room - damp smelling. Breakfast nothing special - hard rolls not that much choice. Parking places at rear VERY RESTRICTED. Parked on the Street the first night, was told I could get 2nd night free and pay for the 3rd night. When I came to check out a very rude young lady insisted I had to pay for 2 nights otherwise she would have to pay for it herself! very argumentative and rude I asked her to call the Manager as I wanted to speak with him she then backed down...
Practically accused me of making the story up! So watch out for that one ! Bed mattress VERY Thin and uncomfortable. Bathroom VERY small - our room was advertised as soundproofed ! We heard plenty of sound especially the lift next door - avoid Room 103..... My husband and I will not be returning again. Positive side - great position to walk to Old Town....

The pictures say it all ... absolutely not worth the EUR 155/night I paid.

This hotel needed a make-over (or at least a paint job) years ago,
simply dirty and worn out.

On the outside, only 3 of the 5 letters of "H_T_L" still work ... it doesn't get any better from there on...
