“nice hotel - shame about the pillows”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 July 2011

conveniently located on the river and close to the chocolate museum (it is as good as it sounds), the Maritim offers a good quality experience for a romantic get away to cologne.
Breakfast and the attached restaurant facilities are all great. The hotel has a pool and a spa area - usual mixed and unclothed as is the norm in germany.
My only complaint is the pillows - where did maritim get them? the look ok, but squish down to nothing and provide no support. we did ask for and quickly received an extra set, but in truth it was two lots of nothing to rest your head on. if you need a good pillow to get a good nights sleep - Maritim have a lot to do

This hotel has a very impressive lobby, which stretches from the entrance close to a nice small square to the other side, which is at the waterfront of the Rhine river.
Inside the long lobby there are some cafés and restaurants and several shops.
The main restaurant are located on top of the conference area with a view over the Rhine river.
I would also take the time to recommend to use the HotelClub.com reservations site if the hotel's own reservations site shows no more rooms available.

Hotel staff were helpful and friendly, I had a nice room overlooking the Rhine, it was a good sizedl room with nice chairs, the bed was comfortable but with very soft pillows, I had to use two, the decoration of the room is old but very clean and not at all worn out, there was a minibar and a safe in the room, the room lock was very safe you need not to worry about it, the whole hotel and lifts are accessable only via your room keys. The location was great bus 132 from hauptbahnhof and tram opposite the hotel. Breakfast was very good like most of the German hotels, I got a very good price including breakfast. I have nothing negative about the hotel except expensive internet. I would advise you not to pay too much for this hotel as I see sometimes sky rocketing room rates.

This hotel was surrounded by a Marathon running event on the Sunday I arrived so access tricky, even on foot. It is situated about 12 minutes walk from the train station and Dom. The monorail/tram is right out front so easy for the trade shows etc. The entrance/foyer, heads what I could only describe as a small shopping mall, with a bar, cafe, restaurant and a couple of oddity outlets. All rooms are accessed by 3 lifts. The rooms are comfy and clean. The security is very high, eg swipe cards for lifts. The only disappointment was the very expensive breakfast, which was of course very European, but not even a croissant in sight (the natural fall back for a Brit abroad when everything looks like food you'd eat for tea!). I do not think I would go back there, not that is was unpleasant, but it certainly lacked soul and character. Price was a tad high.

Room Tip: Ask for a river view (diffcult due to orientation)

If you expect a modern comfortable hotel - this isn't. This hotel was probably the height of glamour in the 80s...but although carpets are clean and fixtures seem properly maintained the glory days of this hotel have very much passed. Our room was decorated in wood panelling with an awkwardly located CRT TV next to the head of one of the small twin beds (in what was meant to be a Supreme Room). The shower was the most annoying alternating from hot to cold. Don't expect any wi-fi either obviously too much of a leap into the 21st Century for the owners to bother with! The location is good and this hotel probably wort the money if you can get a room for less than EUR80. Otherwise its just an expensive, slightly depressing retro experience,

Stayed again at this hotel while attending an exhibition in Cologne. Nice central location next to the Rhine, two stops on the number 1 or 9 tram which leave from just outside the hotel get you to the exhibition centre.

Excellent breakfast in the dinning room overlooking the Rhine.

This visit was for an overnight business trip, and I was thankful to have booked 'Blind' at the Maritim Hotel, as it turned out to be very well positioned, its just a short walk to a vibrant area of town with wonderful bars and restaurants and the hotel was able to provide me with just about everything I needed. helpful staff, good food, nice bars, along with sauna and pool and easy and secure parking.
My room was comfortable, clean and fresh.
My breakfast was excellent.
in brief:
It's a good/smart all-round business/conference, city break hotel and I'd be happy to, and would stay again should I get the chance to visit Kolonge on another occasion.
