We stayed at the Dorint for 2 nights in august during our stay in Cologne. We found it above average, especially considering the price we paid, which as found out later at check in was a mistake, but since it was theirs, they honored it. The hotel is impersonal and charmless, but it's functioning and the service is efficient. The rooms are a bit small, with not much of a sitting area, but well soundproofed. The DUX restaurant was ok, with huge portions, and the breakfast had a great variety. Its location may not be the best, but it's safe and convenient since the tram stop is just outside and the Deutz/Messe station a 5 min walk.

Typical 4/5 star hotel - but rooms smaller than you would expect from a 5* hotel. Super pool complex - excellent for kids too.
The hotel is a good 30 minute walk to town (without children) along not very nice streets. There is a tram stop directly outside the hotel, but the next stop down will take you into the old town near Dom. You can catch the tram or walk to the next stop - just a few minutes walk,
9 euros 50cents for a family day ticket.
Super hotel for a family base - but no real atmosphere (typical business hotel). Did not eat at hotel due to cost and lack of atmosphere - eat in town then use pool which is open till late.
Parking is underground but costs 18euro per day.

All in all a good, clean, high quality hotel that I would use again if in Koln.

Stayed here for a long weekend via Eurostar and Thalys. Hotel is a 7Euro taxi ride from the main station, or a 15 minute walk across the train bridge. The hotel is set up mainly for the exhibition hall opposite, and is of a very high standard. Everything is very clean and precise, like most things in Cologne . The swimming pool and spa are superb, the only downside is the very expensive breakfast and bar. There is a tram stop right outside, and a day pass for all tram/bus travel in Cologne is only 6.40 Euros ! Red Ken take note... Cologne itself is wonderful, lots to see and do, more shops than you could possibly need. The locals are very friendly and helpful, even though our German was very limited . Great for a weekend break.

We really love staying in this hotel.

It has nice comfortable rooms, very extended breakfast buffet, very kind staff that does everything they can to help you and a nice welness and spa area.

When staying here just overnight or for a few days, it is best you book your massages or beauty treatments in advance since it happens that they are fully booked for that or the following day.

The breakfast buffet is almost overwelming, very extended with a huge choice. The pub has a nice atmosphere and serves good food and snacks. The restaurant itself, we did not try, although the dishes served in roomservice were of good quality, although the choice for roomservice is rather limited.

We stayed here already 5 times (also with a baby) and we will defenately return a 6th time.

During our family visit on Christmas, we stayed at the Sofitel. One of our two reserved rooms had an awful cigarette smell and a change was done quick by the friendly and attentive personnel at the reception desk.
The hotel was opened in 2006, pretty new on our arrival, our rooms were located to the courtyard and threrefore very quiet. I assume that it can be much noisier to the street side, but the rooms all have a modern and very quiet air condition and you might close the windows.
To our impression, the hotel deserves five stars. The standard rooms are generally generous, about 36 m2. Tastefully decorated with (artificial) wood veneer, mini bar and comfy beds. The bathroom is a little bit small, but has a nice washstand with a black granite top and a bathtub. OK for one person at a time.
We haven't had any meals in hotel, but saw that the restaurant was full (!!!) on Christmas Eve.
The room cleaning was perfect.
I also used the pool and spa section. Besides the pool, there is a steam bath, a sauna and a room with glass roof to take a nap. Very nice decor and perfect to relax. Just a hint for the visitors: It is absolutely common in Scandinavia and Germany, to go nude into the sauna, more uncommonly to wear anything else than a towel. The hotel provides nice bathrobes and slippers for the spa use.
As mentioned by other guests, the connection to the center can easily done by tram (stops in front of the hotel) and/or train. You would need around 15-20 minutes by foot to the Dom and the center, crossing the Rhein over the bridge "Hohenzollernbrücke", which I would recommend to do. The time by train would nearly be the same, because it is only one station from "Deutz" to the "Hauptbahnhof". Do not miss the "Früh" and the "Paeffgen" (Friesenstrasse, ask at the hotel how to reach) for a Kölsch and Halve Hahn.
