“Amazing hotel.”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 December 2011

We had an amazing weekend at this hotel. Great view, very good and friendly service. Because the hotel was full we got a free upgrade for the premium rooms. Welness was very satisfying. Breakfast was huge and good. Only minor thing was the waiting for a place to sit.

My family and I stayed here during carnival and it proved to be an excellent location and choice. We actually didn't realize carnival was going on and was there to see the cathedral but it turned out to be the best decision. Cologne was very busy at this time but you couldn't tell it from the hotel. It still maintained the quiet environment we wanted. We didn't have a room with a view of the river or cathedral but the rooms were still excellent. The rooms with the view looked amazing but were more than we wanted to spend. They would have probably been cheaper if we hadn't stayed during the festival so if you can get one of those rooms, absolutely do it. The views from the hotel were excellent and the location was perfect. We simply walked out of the hotel and had beautiful photo shots. Then you can simply walk across the bridge to the cathedral and downtown Cologne. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone going to Cologne.

Room Tip: The rooms were very quiet but the best rooms would be the ones with the views of the river and cathe...

Lovely hotel in a lovely city- the design of each room is contemporary, the beds are comfortable and the bathrooms are spacious. They leave bottled water and apples every day. The breakfast was included in the room price and it is delicious, with a great view of the Rhine and the décor is modern.

I liked this hotel a lot. There is a pool, spa and sauna which I used each day. The staff were all friendly.

It does have that big hotel Hyatt feel about it- so if that’s what you’re looking for then I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this.

It’s also a good spot for photographs as you have a lovely view of the bridge and cathedral which is a very short walk away.

When you approach the Hyatt Regency by road, it is slightly confusing despite the satnav. But when you take the right turn, you see the private road - the Rhine river to the left and the hotel to the right. And beyond, on the other bank, the magnificent cathedral and the touristy part of Cologne. So as far as location goes, this is pretty good. The room I had did not have a view of the river and cathedral unfortunately - it faced the train tracks that ran across the bridge on the river. Well, not to worry - the room is well insulated and you can barely hear the trains. The corridor has lots of abstract-looking figurative black and white prints and the room was good and spacious. It was intelligently designed but not vibrant and cheerful. The service was excellent across most areas - concierge, reception, all-day restaurant, etc. The food at the restaurant was quite decent but the breakfast spread was really brilliant. The touristy areas of the city, including the cathedral and the main railway station, are a short walk away on the bridge and the view from the hotel is really, really soothing.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a view of the cathedral

best view in cologne! a fellow female colleague and i stayed here earlier this month and it was great. hyatt never seems to dissapoint me. we travel quite a bit and are always dissapointed when there isnt a hyatt to choose from!!
from the moment we arrived, smiles were welcoming and warm-which is very appreciated when im away from my home and kids.
they made an error on my booking and put me in a smoking room-which stunk, as soon as i called them they had me moved to a nonj smoking room with no fuss at all, i didnt kick up a stink about it, they simply moved me...the next afternoon there was a personally signed note of apology for the mix up and a tray of chocolates from the manager(an unexpected surprise but thank you very much! rooms were clean, very large(we got the rhine river king room) with a spectacular view of the dom and the 'love bridge". my only criticism is that it is not ideal if youre a shopper as it is considered to be on the 'wrong side' of cologne according to the locals(which we found out from colleagues over the 3 days we were there) the dom and exelsior hotel were recommended for shoppers by the locals..it takes about 10-12mins by cab to get around the bridge and acroos to the dom cathedral and shops..we quite liked the walk acroos on the days we went to the city centre but when we shopped it would have been nice to be able to draop bags in to our rooms and continue shopping, this way we shopped-got very tired carrying bags and cabbed it back to hotel...
breakfast was absoluutely excellent! there were two restaurants, one of which was a bar-a great bar which served a variety of meals. we had the best schnitzel upstairs in the restaurant which was so good that even though we had dinner in the bar the next night we asked for it again -it was not on the bar menu but as usual in the hyatt style-they had it made for us and vrough to the bar.(the restaurant upstairs is a limited not so great menu-lots of weird fish and german twists on everything) hyatt is always a home away from home for us. oh, one other little thing is that they only have half an hour free wiifii per day...otherwise excellent.

Room Tip: ask for a rhine river view room and definately try the schnitzel

The Hyatt Regency Cologne is an excellent choice when coming to Cologne for business and/or pleasure. It's located across the river Rhine, which gives you the best possible view of the magnificent Cathedral - and you can get there by taking a short stroll across the bridge.

Here's a short list of elements to consider:

PRO's:
- The VIEW! Get a room with "river view" - it's so worth it. The Cathedral is a sight to behold.
- The service: welcoming, friendly, professional staff
- The location: Ideal for sightseeing, and pretty good to go to the "Köln Messe"
- Easy to go to and from the airport (S-Bahn ride is just 12 minutes (Station: Köln Deutz)
- Well maintained, nicely sized, and quiet (!) room, comfortable German bed with duvet
- Easy to use flatscreen TV, withe a (limited) number of international channels
- Marble bathroom, separate shower
- Club Level: a great choice if you will use the ammenities it offers (e.g. continental breakfast...)

NEITHER GOOD ... NOR BAD
- Shower with "water saver head" - makes for an underwhelming shower experience
- You are not in the old city center and you need to walk to get there

CON's
- The hotel, although very well maintained, is showing its age a bit
- Airconditioning: Windows in many rooms do not (!) open
- Elevators need room-key to function. Great added security if it works, total nuisance if not...

In conclusion: I will definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: "Glashaus" - the restaurant at the hotel, is very good and delivers high quality food. Th...

One thing at bothers me a lot when travelling is hotels that charge for wifi. Unfortunately the Hyatt in cologne goes to the extreme.

Wifi costs €16 for 24 hrs and only one device can be activated. If you have an iPhone and a laptop you must pay twice to have wifi on both.

The rooms are spacious, location is excellent, staff friendly and the breakfast was top class. It's a super location with stunning views of the famous cathedral across the river.

To stay isn't cheap but it is top class. The wifi issue is the only fault I find with the place. If your not Internet savy/don't wish to pay excessively for what I believe is a basic service then this is not the place for you.
