“Great Hotel”
Reviewed 21 December 2011

What a fantastic Hotel!! Beautiful place, nice view, extremely friendly staff, spectacular room, and great value. Close to the Xmas market (accross the bridge with the multiple paddlocks).
Tiny mishap, as housekeeping forgot to replenish our mini bar, and bathroom soaps, and when we brought it up to their attention, they immediatly took it upon themselves to give us all our drinks free of charge. I was flabbergasted at the offer especially, because it was voluntary.
Can't wait to go back there.

This hotel is upscale and some VIPs stay on the regency floor where I stayed. The staff are efficient and discreet with their special guests. Check in was easy and the staff were nice and accomodating with our unusal requests like mailing tape and scissors to transport our package.
Platinum members only get 30 minutes of free internet a day which doesn't make sense compared to other Hyatt's but Diamond members get unlimited free wifi.
The regency floor has a beautiful view of the Rhine river with ships sailing by and a good view of the cathedral. It's an easy walk across the Wilheim bridge to the cathedral and the swanky shops. On the bridge take a look at all the padlocks which are put there by loving couples and the key is thrown into the river.
We walked to the train station luggage and all and felt safe walking around.
Atm's in Germany charged me $11 a transaction!
Our room was big for a European hotel and the bathroom was beautiful with nice sink area, hair dryer, big shower and separate soaking bathtub.
We walked to the Christmas markets and there is plenty to see and buy and nearby are dept stores and little stores. The market by the cathedral gives samples of food unlike other markets I have been to.
We visited the Lindt chocolate museum on the river within walking distance and it is a good museum with lots of chocolate and samples too. Worth the visit.
Regency floor has cheeses from Holland and France and berry jams are a good complement along with the fresh breads. The staff ensure your wine glass and coffee cup do not go empty.
Sausages, cereals, meats and breads for breakfast and appetizers in the evening.
I look forward to a return visit.

Stayed here for 1 night in December 2011 in order to visit xmas markets. Got a reasonably good deal which included breakfast.
Hotel is located approx 5 mins walking from main train station and The Dom just across the bridge). Close to all tourist sites, but in a safe, quiet location.
Room we had did not overlook river though had a side view of it. Room was big, cosy, warm, clean, comfortable bed, lovely big bathroom. Used pool, steam and sauna which was lovely.
Breakfast was fantsatic and was very happy it was included in our price, otherwise it would have been v expensive. Excellent selection of foods from cereals, breads, omlettes, eggs, bacon, pancakes, cheeses, cold meats, juices, teas, coffees.
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. v friendly and helpful staff.

Room Tip: A room overlooking the river would be lovely

Excellent hotel with a superb service in a good location. The staff couldn't do enough for us and responded to all our requests with impeccable professionalism. Breakfast was fantastic and although would recommend getting it in the room rate as it is expensive if purchased later.

A short walk across the bridge and you will find yourself with a choice of plenty of restaurants and be right outside the Dom.

We had a Rhine view room which was stunning.

The hotel staff were excellent from the valet parking guy, waiters/waitresses and the very helpful receptionists/concierge. Super polite, perfect English and nothing too much trouble – what you come to expect from this type of hotel but sadly don’t always get.

The rooms were very comfortable, clean, modern and with good amenities. They offer free internet for the first 30 minutes which is a nice touch. However, why can’t premium hotels provide internet free at the weekends? By all means make money out of the business traveller during the week but give the tourists a break and encourage them to enjoy the cities they visit…moan over. We booked a deluxe room and ordered a put away bed for our daughter (she’s 10). In all the hotels we have stayed in over the years this was the first time it was a decent usable and highly comfortable bed – not the usual collapse as soon as you look at “Z” bed.

We were tempted to take an early start on the first morning, find a coffee/pastry and avoid the 30 Euro per person breakfast. Pleased we didn’t…excellent start to the day with a high quality buffet breakfast. Pastries very fresh, cold meats/fruit in a cold room, eggs to order and hot meats regularly replenished.

The hotel for my mind is in the perfect location. It’s not in the centre of the city but directly opposite the cathedral on the other side of the river. Stunning views of the city throughout the day - morning, sunset and night. Very short walk across the bridge (railway) to the city and look out the locks on the railway fence…quirky and fun to read.

The bar (cocktail bar) was disappointing as it was full of smokers. Maybe we’ve gotten too used to non-smoking pubs in the UK but if am going to have a drink and a bite to eat I’d rather do this smoke free. Avoid unless you are a smoker.

Stayed here 3 nights during recent trip to Germany for Christmas markets. The hotel is about a 15 minute walk from the train station, across the bridge to the back of the train station. The same bridge that the trains come in over the river from is the bridge you cross to get to the hotel. The hotel is located right on the waterfront on the far side of the river from the station. We paid 202 euro a night for a standard room.

The hotel has a very nice and warm lobby. We had no issues checking in, aside from having only 1 of our 2 rooms ready. The room we had was nice enough. It had a flat screen TV and a large bathroom with a rain shower, which was very nice. We had a room on the side of the hotel so we did not have a view of the water...well, we had a partial view, but very partial. The bed was comfortable, although some of the pillows were not very comfortable.

The club lounge is on the 7th floor, which is where the club rooms are. It is a little odd, as the lounge is really an open area right at the entrance to the floor from the elevator. You step off the elevator and you are instantly in the club area, which consists of a table and counterspace where the food/drinks are, and then a little area where you can sit, which is kind of seperated by some bookshelves. The lounge was satisfactory. We had breakfast there every day and they had an assortment of breads, cold cuts, yogurt, and some hot sausages. In the evening there were drinks as well as canapes. There is also 1 computer available in the corner for use for internet/email etc. The lounge has a great view overlooking the river and cathedral, which is very nice.

The location is good as long as you do not mind about a 15 minute walk across the bridge. However, the main sights like the Cathedral are right on the other side, so once you cross the bridge, you pretty much have the train station, the cathedral, the roman museum and a few other sights right at your fingertips.

We did use the spa on site to sit in the hot tub a little, which was HUGELY disappointing. The hot tub was tepid at BEST. We honestly had to go back to the room and take a hot shower just to warm back up after trapsing wet through the lobby. In all truth the hot tub was not even hot at all...it was truly "warm". Big disappointment, but we figure it may be possible they keep it at a very "safe" level for liability.

Overall, we had a great stay and it was an excellent hotel. At almost 300 US with the exchange, it was not a steal but it was on the higher end of what I would consider fair. I would stay there again.

Excellent stay with our 3 year old who was welcomed by all staff including at dinner in Glashaus restaurant. Close enough to walk from Deutze Messe station and closest U bahn is about 5 minutes walk, this line takes you right to the heart of the city.

View amazing from hotel.
Breakfast very good, except main restaurant area invariably full as this has the best views, in overflow area we felt a little isolated.
Nice to be able to use pool and was not busy, so could relax.

Imperfections:
Check in not good as room not ready on time - travelling with toddler this was not appreciated.
Room service menus had been written on by previous guests. Bathroom robe for our 3 year old had to be requested even though hotel knew her age, they had provided an adult robe.
Bathroom scale not working.
Taxis tended to park and block off entrance when dropping guest off.
No free wifi although business centre was free and open 24 hours

Room Tip: Choose a room with Rhine view and pay supplement for a high floor ( floor 5)
