Stayed here for a long weekend (3 nights) with my husband. Finding the hotel with GPS is very hard, we ended up at the address (you cannot enter 4 a in our GPS, so we just used 4) and never saw the hotel or a sign. We then pulled over to the back side of the hilton hotel, and magically found the entrance to the Lindner parking garage. When we got to the gate, it said we needed to go to the lobby first, but that was not true, the machine gave us a ticket and we were able to drive in. Check in worked fine, and we went to our assigned room.
Luggage cart is provided so you can bring your stuff in easily.
We had booked the least expensive way, which means 'hotel's choice' for your room. We had asked for a quiet non-smoking though. Our room was on the second floor, right next to the entrance to the pool and sauna area - not the quietest room I am sure.
The view was walls, and a little bit of courtyard, which also holds tables for the restaurant, and where there is a BBQ every Saturday evening.
When we got in, the thermometer on the AC control said we were at 26 degrees. It had been hot the previous days, and had finally cooled down that night. So we set the AC to lower and full blast, while we started unpacking this and that. After a while, the room temperature had not changed. We went to the front desk to inquire, and the guy there said that actually, that was the hotel's average temperature, not the room temperature (on a sign next to the AC it said: shown on display is room temperature). He offered to come and check though. He checked and said it should all work fine, and just give it some time, as it is one central AC and not separate AC units per room. We had a few errands to run that night and a meeting, so we left very shortly after.
Coming back a couple of hours later, we found all assigned hotel parking spots taken. There are 3 sections in the lot, and we weren't sure if we were allowed to take one of the others, as most of those also were assigned to special license plates. So my husband went to front desk, where they said any parking spot other than the license plate ones are fine. Wish they had a sign there somewhere! Parking spots are very small, and we have a larger car (not a van or big big one, but no smart car.) So parking was interesting and took a while. You see where other cars have scratched the walls, as the turns are very tight. Parking is 20 Euro per 12-24 hours.
When we got back to the room, the thermometer still said 26 degrees, and it was very hot in there. My husband mentioned this at front desk, and was told to cool the room down by opening the window. He came up to the room, turned on his internet and checked that it said: rooms provided with AC, and he also saw the sign that said shown is room temperature.
So he went back down to the front desk and complained, saying we pay for an AC, and we want one. It would have been really easy to access the room through the courtyard, so we would not have been able to leave the window open when we leave the house.
The house manager was at the front desk this time, and she came to the room with my husband right away. She walked in and said that this room was unusable because there was something wrong with the AC as she took one step into the room. She then offered us a room on the top floor (8th), but with a slightly smaller bed. It was almost the only room left they could offer us. The room itself was nicer, and surely an upgrade, but it was designed for a single person.
We ended up taking it, and enjoying our balcony that came with it. Nice view now, though not the cathedral. We also looked straight into the post office's building, luckily no one works there over the weekend, and we only saw people (and people saw us) Monday morning.
Two people can live there, but there was less closet space, my side of the bed had no lamp or nightstand, no light switch even. So I kept a flashlight by my bed so I didn't have to wake my husband whenever I needed light. The bed was large enough for 2, but just so. You had bathrobes and a bath towel, carpet slippers and a larger mini bar on top of that. Nice if you go to the sauna and pool, which we did not. Take the back side elevator for that, it will stop on the second floor and you will not end up at the front desk in your swim suit.
With the AC working, and 3 large windows, one of them opening to be the balcony door, we had the room nice and cool for all 3 days we were there.
Shower worked fine, but with very low pressure. You had soap, shower gel, lotion and shampoo available.
We still give this hotel a very good rating. Housekeeping does an excellent job, hallways and rooms are really clean. All furniture and bathroom interior is in great shape.
Beds are comfortable, and the rooms are large enough for you to "breeze".
You can find much cheaper hotels, for certain, but the location and the condition are pretty much worth it. To have a top view, you would have to pay more though.
Things to do in the area: You will find the cathedral (and the train station of Cologne) only a 3 minute walk away. Behind the cathedral you find the old part of town, where you will find dozens, if not hundreds of restaurants and pubs, of any kind. We also left the house for breakfast, which is advisable as very close by, you will find the train station with many choices, or even a Dunkin' Donuts (rare in Germany). Breakfast is 20 Euro per person in the hotel, and with that, more than a dinner in most restaurants we went to. Also, you can get food 24/7 in some shops in the train station, so there are many options right there. We never even set foot in the hotel's restaurant, so I cannot say anything about it.
Will we stay here again? Possibly. Not sure though.

Room Tip: ask for a room with a view, even if you take the cheap option. Maybe you will get lucky.

Just a few blocks away from the Hauptbahnhof and Dom, but still on a quiet side street. Room, bed, bathroom all normal and spacious. Very good breakfast compared to other German hotels, alternatives for people with allergies, and eco-friendly choices. Downside, as too often in German hotels: Horrendously expensive wi-fi.

We stayed here while attending Eurovision (shush) and despite the huge numbers of people in the area, the price for this hotel was still really reasonable.

The staff were nice, breakfast was decent. The rooms were pretty alright. Biggest downside - the expensive WiFi!

Best part -- the location. Super close to the train station, Dom, and the other main sights!

We spent two nights at this hotel in August 2010. We were really impressed with how modern and stylish the hotel looked. It was great value for money and within easy walking distance from the main railway station and The Dom.
The rooms were spacious, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very special with a good choice. The swimming pool was large and very nice.

Sometimes a quite "good Looking Hotel" in the Web is a disappointment. At first we had wait for 1/2 hours before getting into our rooms - it was about 5:00 PM normally the rooms should be cleaned to receive new customers at this time of the day... the room Windows were located next to a Wall... nothing to say so far... we went here for sleeping... The bathrooms were not so clean we expected, the Beds not very comfortable. A double sized Bed shouldn´t be placed against the wall, so that one guest had to step over to join his sleeping place. Quality compared to the rate was not corresponding to our expectation. The Barkeeper was sick and served us drinks in dirty glasses... Very soon we decided just to stay for one night and we were glad to find another Hotel next to the Cathedral.

I stayed here with my partner for 7 nights and found the hotel to be very comfortable, and very convenient to transportation. The entrance is a bit hard to find given that the published address is a bit misleading. The entrance is just south of the corner of Stolgasse and Postprivatestrasse. Don't try to use street level view on Google maps since the Germans haven't allowed that yet.

The rooms are clean and comfortable, with plenty of storage. The beds are German style - a fitted sheet over the mattress and a comforter with duvet, but no flat sheet. The AC had trouble keeping the room cool at times, but was usually comfortable. The breakfast costs extra, and is a bit pricey at 19 euro per person. The gym is well equipped, but costs 8 euro per day. The swimming pool is nice. The staff were friendly and helpful. High speed internet is available but costs extra. I think I paid 53 euro for a week, which in Europe is not bad.

Ask for a room with a balcony. Not much of a view but it's nice to have the extra living space and these rooms are a bit larger.

The hotel entrance is about 270 meters to the closest subway station, and about 350 meters to the HBF.
