“Good Location Excellent Therme and Spa”
Reviewed 12 July 2014

We visited in April 2014 and found this hotel really good. The room was a good size with excellent shower/WC room. The reception staff were really helpful and spoke perfect English (as was the case throughout Koln). The breakfast was very good with an excellent selection of hot and cold food.

The highlight of this complex however is the spa / therme with I think 7 themed saunas, a steam room, a hot tub and ice cold plunge pool. There is an internal and external pool of reasonable size. The main sauna has a different theme every hour. The spa is open until midnight - so we were able to wind down after being out for dinner and drinks. Yes, the spa is essentially a nude area - which is quite common in many European countries - although some people (very few) wore bathing costumes - this of course meant they couldn't use all the facilities.

The spa was really busy over the weekend (particularly Friday evening when many workers came to relax). There is also a gym, which was good, a solarium which we didn't use. I understand massage etc is also available.

The hotel is well situated for walking to most parts of Koln, which has both a modern and old part. The shopping centre is uber modern, whilst the old town (Aldstadt) is quaint with some great restaurants and bars.

I can recommend and we hope to return soon.

Friendly staff and feel like home. That the first impression when we check in on midnight. All the staff are very welcome and helpful always smile and give information very detailed. Small coffee shop for breakfast, lunch and dinner with simple dishes. The room is big with comfortable bed, nice shower room and very clean. Near to the convention center, train station, touris visitors point and shopping center as well. Very recommend for all kind of travelers

Upon check in I was given a room that had not even been cleaned from the previous guest. After alerting reception I was given another room. The room I was given was absolutely disgusting to say the least. The room smelt terrible, the toilet bowl was horrendous. I refused to use it instead I used the toilet in the spa change rooms. There were spider webs all around the curtains and windows. The sink in the bathroom took an extremely long time to drain the water. The shower was tiny. And the walls throughout the room were marked and dirty. There is no air con so if you want to try and sleep with the window open, forget it. A lot of noise from the street, trams, cars, people and drunks that hang out on the steps of the church in front of the hotel.

After one night I checked out and found another hotel.

This is definitely not a 4 star hotel. I've seen better hostels then this.

The only good thing going for this place is the spa/sauna. You don't have to be a guest to use it. So stay somewhere else and use the spa/sauna as a visitor.

We booked this hotel for two nights, and only stayed for one. We wanted to have a nice and relaxing weekend in the Spa and Wellness, but it wasn't quite as we expected.
The Spa area is more like a nudist institution. All the saunas are "no-clothing zones" and most people walk around without their clothes in the general Spa area and in the pools as well. Out of the 3 hot tubs, one was operating, another one was closed and the third one was filled with ice cold water.
The most annoying thing though was the fact that everyone was looking at us (wearing swimsuits) like we were extraterrestrials. We didn't feel comfortable at all, and decided not to go again to the spa.
The hotel room itself was decent, although the other rooms' doors were very noisy, so sleep quality was bad. The staff at the reception was very helpful in general, but we still had to pay two nights instead of only one that we stayed.
Parking is about 250 meters away, 13 euros/night and wifi is 5 euros/day.

recently spent a night here before flying back to USA. We reserved the deluxe suite. It is very spacious and was located over a quiet courtyard. I highly recommend spending the extra money for the deluxe room and the amenities it provides. We used the spa two times that day and it was totally relaxing, especially at night before retiring to bed. Hotel guests get comp use of the spa which is a great value I think. Staff are great and the tram stop is only 75 meters from the hotel so you can get all over town very easy from here.

Room Tip: try to get quiet courtyard view

The hotel is not a bad choice but it is about 15-20 min walk to the center. It was very cold when we were there so the walk felt longer but it's not bad at all. We did not try the spa so I can't comment on it. It was a bit difficult to find the hotel and probably would have had a hard time locating if it wasn't for our GPS. It's located in a residential neighborhood with lots of narrow twisty streets. Street parking is very hard to find and you have to feed the meter until 8 or 9pm. The hotel does not have a garage so you have to park at one about 2 blocks away. The room was nothing special, average size. Because it is also a spa, you get the smell of chlorine in the hallways. Not a big deal but it would start to bother me if I had booked for more than one night. The hotel charges for the Wi-Fi connection which I found a bit frustrating. We did not try the breakfast so I can't comment on it. To sum it up, it's an average hotel. Maybe the spa would have sweetened the deal for us, but we didn't have the time.

We stayed at the Mauritius Alstadt, took the tram over to the larger hotel and used the Therm one evening. Everyone was so accomodating and friendly! The salt water therm indoor/outdoor pool was my favorite, subdued lighting and quiet atmosphere relaxed me very quickly. The main pool and hot tubs were also fun and relaxing. The many saunas were huge and smelled very fresh. The steam rooms, lounges and more secluded areas for resting were very tasteful. Nudity was the norm, with a few wearing swim suits and towels. The locker/shower/dressing areas were well appointed for our use. A small fee was charged for towels and barthrobe and slippers. Very well organized, quiet, adults only and some very beautiful people ! My wife loved this place.
