Would have enjoyed it even better if we had free WiFi access. Reasonably priced but the Dom was 1.5kms away and I had to use my car to get there. Good bar service. Did not try their restaurant services but felt the breakfast menu was overpriced and decided to havemy brunch at the Xmas markets.

Cologne's Christmas Markets are a great excuse to visit the city. Going as a family with two teenage boys its almost impossible to find a hotel that will take four people in a single room, unless you stay in a Novotel.

The hotel itself is a good 20 minute walk along the Rhine from the Cathedral, although only a short walk to the chocolate museum. So its close enough to spend all day in town, come back to drop off the shopping and then go out for the evening.

Our room was on the 2nd floor, facing the main road, but there was no discernable traffic noise. For four people it was a comfortable size (one double bed and a sofa bed). Everything was clean and as you would expect from a large hotel chain.

The only minor complaint I have is: the main bed had a foam mattress and uncomfortable pillows. Actually, the sofa bed is slightly nicer to sleep on. Our room was also very warm even though I turned the thermostat right down. As I'm usually cold at night I wasn't bothered, but other people might be.

Although Novotel generally do a fairly good buffet breakfast, you have to buy this separately and we didn't want to spend 16 Euros per adult. Instead we went to the Merzernich Bakery across from the Kaufhof in town where for 16 Euros we got rolls and drinks for four.

We drove to Cologne from London: a car park was a must. The one at Novotel car park is under the hotel with an entrance on a side street. Its fairly secure and costs 12 Euros/night. It is only open to hotel guests, though if you check out you can still keep the car there for the rest of the day. If you are driving, this hotel is easy to find and get to from the motorway.

Oh - and if your German is rusty or (like me) non-existent. Al the staff spoke excellent English and were helpful.

We had a great weekend in Cologne at the Christmas markets and would recommend this hotel to anyone with older children.

I recently stayed here with two friends, the room although small, was clean and tidy and well equipped. The hotel was ideal for visiting the Christmas Markets, the first one we visited was literally no more than a 10 minute walk up the road. The staff were very polite and helpful. We would definitely stay here again.

I always try to stay here on business. It's a 10 minute walk to the "Dom" and has a great view of the Rhine. Bayerstrasse can be a bit busy but sleeping with the window open (a must in most hotels worldwide) is OK as it is not too noisy later on.

Only quibble was I found had to stay an extra night and after checking out in the morning I found I couldn't have the same B+B tariff as this first night (Euro 101 in total). Next night was Euro 99 without breakfast. As I had an early flight I had a cheaper breakfast at the airport.

Otherwise, I like this hotel. Good food morning, noon and night.

Very nice hotel a bit on a edge of a city but we walked everywhere. Good restaurant, good service, polite employees. I won one night stay in this hotel with a dinner and breakfast on a Dutch Bank Lottery.

The rooms were clean at initial glance, but one of the kids threw a toy under the bed andf when I reached down to find it, I was shocked at the amount of dust that there was below the beds. Other than that breakfast was good and location ideal to what we wanted to do.

We stayed here last week on a business trip. We prebooked 3 months ago and got it at 2/3rd the price that was mentioned on the rate for the day.

This was a solid 4 star hotel - clean well laid out, sophisticated. The breakfast variety was amongst the best i have seen in my travels in Europe with a vast choice including fresh made to order juices. The hotel had the best shower cubicle set up that i have ever seen - most practical and functional for a variety of reasons - whoever is responsible for this - project department/ architect - good selection and well done. The Imac corner was very functional and convenient and is a welcome deterrent against meaningless pricing for internet connections and this alone is a good reason to chose this hotel over others when on business.

The hotel is well located - almost on the river bank and it was pleasant to get out and walk along the river bank which had a mix of brand new apartment complexes and some snazzy office buildings as well including the Electronic Arts office (now how cool was that) and a great EA sports bar.

The hotel is 7 mins away from the Hbf and the Dome and is a short taxi ride away from the messe. Cologne itself is a beautiful city and worth the time to come and spend a day or two here.

When we return here if we are staying at the same category of hotel - i will surely look this up.
