Station Hostel for Backpackers

Spent with 12 Irish friends at this hostel for weekend. The rooms and the bathrooms were clean but small too. The pillows very BAD!!! Staff very friendly and helpfully. It's easy to walk to the train station less 5 mins and Dom historical cathedral. A lots of great bars/pubs, takeaways and shop. The good location. Recommend students and young people.

The hotel is situated right next to the Cologne Train Station (5min walking or even less), and of course, right next to the Dom as well because the Dom stands right in front of the train station. But other than the location advantage, the hostel sucks...

Staff: not particularly friendly or helpful whatsoever. They check you in, check you out, crack open a bottle of beer for you after you pay, and that's all. Don't expect them to provide you with a city map, let alone to tell you what to check out in the city.

Cleanliness: very average.

Facilities: terrible. Security lockers are located in the HALLWAY (how secure that is...). The lamp next to my bed was not working and there are barely any (functional) plugs in the 6-bed room.

Atmosphere: don't expect to meet people as lots of people choose this hostel simply because they have an early train to catch in the morning.

The staff were really friendly and bubbly - two girls who i had great conversations with about music and concerts as well as sightseeing in Cologne. Checkout at 12PM which is nice. The bed was rock hard which made for an uncomfortable sleep, but they had free lockers and quite a few toilets. The hallways smelt pretty bad (like stale food) but considering how great the location is I think that makes up for it.

Hostel placed in front of the Hilton Cologne. Very close to Dom and train station. Location is perfect. At the entrance there is a common place. Rooms are clean. There is a locker room in downstairs, so you can put your luggage to here if you return at night or when arrive if your room is not ready. Only negative thing is staff is rude and unfriendly.

Arrived early to the hotel however luckily our room was ready so could check in straight away, a friendly man on reception was helpful and straight away gave us the wifi code.

We had a private double room which was clean and smart for a hostel. We had a room facing onto the railway tracks however heard hardly any noise when the window was shut.

The showers were good however because it's a hostel there are no regular cleans or towel changes. The staff were very friendly and we could regularly hear them answering peoples questions. The wifi only works in the common areas which is quite annoying.

The hostel is close to shops, the cathedral, a 3 minute walk from the train station and is very central to all main shops, museums and Christmas markets.

Late one night there was lots of shouting and banging onto our wall from a shared male dormitory next door. After a while my boyfriend went to complain. The receptionist said he had had a complaint already and then came up and spoke to the boys pretty quickly, which resulted in them shutting up which was great.

We would recommend this hotel because of it's location, service and price however if we were to come to Cologne again (which is likely as it's very beautiful) then we will try to find somewhere else with a similar price and central location.

Arrived at 11am and our room was ready so could check in, the guy that checked us in was very helpful, gave us a map to the Xmas markets and wifi code. There was work going on in the hostel on every floor but this did not disturb us to be honest, a little dust but that was it. The room was clean and the bed were comfortable. We had a room facing onto the street and there was very little noise. Showers were hot. Staff were very friendly. We were staying in cologne as we were going to a football game. The hostel is a 3 minute walk from the train station, it is very central. Only downside was the wifi, good in common areas but not available in the rooms! Would 100% stay here again

We decided to stay here because it seemed like the best option for a hostel in Cologne. Despite this we were pretty disappointed. The only issue I really had with the place was cleanliness. I don't think the bathrooms were cleaned while I was there and all the surfaces were dusty; the tables in the common room, and particularly the floors, our bags got really dirty in storage.
Nothing else to complain about, but nothing to rave about either. Not the best vibe in the place, and it's pretty run down.
