Excellent hotel apartment, polite and helpful staff, rooms are fully equipped with necessary tools like iron, cooking facilities, big refrigerator, plates, iphone deck, very high speed wifi internet free of charge, fitness room.
It would be perfect if breakfast would inclusive the room rate.
Highly recommended!

We had initially selected a more "luxurious" hotel which was a little further out for our 4 night stay, but would require us to get tram/bus into town, so at the last minute we changed our minds as we wanted to be within walking distance of town, particularly as we wanted to go to the Kolner Lichter on the 19 July. So we were frantically looking for somewhere nearer to town with decent reviews at a realistic price (prices in Cologne were going up dramatically for the Saturday night Kolner Lichter). I am very pleased that we came across the Adagio. We went by car, but it is a few minutes walk from the tram station, so easy to get to without a car I think. Reception area is welcoming, clean and bright.

On arrival, Daniel on reception was excellent, very helpful and very informative, as were all the staff we encountered on our visit.

The apartment was small but perfect for our needs, with the sofa turning into a bed (or two beds as there is a pull-out one underneath the sofa too, for our daughter to sleep on. It was very clean and modern. The only slight downside is there would be no towel change during our visit, but we were notified of that in advance. Having said that, we did have a heated towel rail in the bathroom so we could dry our towels, so it turned out not to be a problem at all.

We hadn't planned on looking for a hotel with a kitchen area so it was a bonus. As well as all the cooking implements, crockery and cutlery we could need, there was also a little basket with washing up liquid, tea towels, pan scrubber etc. which was very useful. The fridge is very large, also proper hob top as well as a microwave.

The parking was easy, underneath the hotel. There were plenty of small shops / bakeries, cafes etc in the vicinity but also the city centre shopping was minutes away by foot. The Dom and the river were about 15 mins away by foot, but it was an easy walk with plenty to see on the way.

There are loads of restaurants within easy reach, it was just a dilemma which ones to try!

We would definitely come back to this hotel again.

The Adagio's physical facility is mostly great. The hotel is located a moderate walk from the central train station (roughly 30 minutes walk with largish rolling bags). It is also very close to multiple supermarkets so you can fill the fridge you've paid for.

The rooms themselves are tiny in a cute way, but totally functional. The den/office area has a dining table under the desk, which makes mealtimes seem remarkably civilized. The couches, even the fold-out, are quite comfortable. There's enough space for two people to do their thing without bumping into each other, and a television in both the bedroom and den, so if you can't agree on a channel, you can both watch. However, there's no non-news English language option on the TV, so unless you are fluent in French or German, that's not likely to happen.

Lights in the elevator lobby are set up to some sort of ecological mode, so when you walk out of your room or out of the elevator, you walk into a completely dark lobby that blinks to life 2-3 seconds later. I appreciate the power saving, and since the elevator is key card locked, it's not frightening, but if you don't like the dark, it can be unnerving.

The refrigerator is a little hard to open because its handle matches the cabinetry and it's hard to get a grip on the door, it is 3/4 normal size and totally functional. While the microwave/convection oven takes some reading of the instructions to get used to (and note - the "crisp" function will not cook a frozen food object through in 2-3 minutes as it only cooks the outside; microwave through first, then crisp), it works. I didn't use the induction cooktop. The dishwasher works well.

As others have mentioned, if you're getting larger than a "twin" bed, you're really getting two beds placed next to each other, and even if you don't generally sleep with your spouse/partner like an old 1950's sitcom, with the two of you in separate beds, that's going to happen, because the beds will slide apart with the slightest movement. The fold-out bed in the couch may be wider; I didn't check.

There are really only enough dishes and flatware for two people to eat on for two days, but since the dishwashing soap is included with the room, this isn't a big deal.

Room cleaning is daily if you stay for less than a week; the cleaner comes relatively early in the morning, so if you are planning a slightly late departure, put that "do not disturb" on the door.

Biggest disappointment with the Adagio was the lack of laundry machines. There are dozens of units in the "aparthotel," but only two washing machines and one clothes dryer. This means there will be a line and passive aggressive (and sometimes truly aggressive) moving of other people's clothing around before it's 100% done. I ended up drying most of my clothes on the rack inside the shower; if I didn't own mostly quick-dry items, they might not have been dry by the time I needed to leave.

It is not a bad hotel at all...just not what we expected for 100 euros a night.
The best thing about the hotel is the location. You can walk up to most of the tourist destinations in and around the Dom area.

The room and the bathroom were clean and the kitchenette was handy. However, they make you sign a bond before you use the kitchenette. There is no restaurant inside the hotel but there is a Doner shop right opposite and a Sushi bar and Grill next door.

There are quite a few adult toy shops around so you may want to have answers handy if your kids are the inquisitive kind.

What we didn't like:
---------------------------------------------

* No after bath lotion. Not that I don't carry my own but I expect that to be a min. basic in toiletries when I am paying so much

* The beds were not comfortable. They were 2 light-weight single beds joined together and if we as much as moved in the night they would separate. This was scary because our 2-year old was sharing the bed and I was constantly stressed that he might just fall through.
The rest of the furniture was also flimsy.

* The walls are really thin. My son managed to wake up the neighbors just by crying and he wasn't even crying very loudly.

* Lousy housekeeping. We asked the housekeeping lady to clear the dustbins because there were dirty diapers in them. When we returned, the dustbins had not been cleaned and the whole room was stinking. The room was also not cleaned.

* You cannot open the windows if you small children. The railing is really low and the spacing between the rails is quite a lot.

* The wi-fi did not work inside the room and the process to get the password was really confusing. We eventually gave up and used the mobile network.

* The clock is the room was set to a wrong time. It was an electronic clock and somehow we could not set the correct time. It was very annoying.

*The space for hanging clothes was limited as they had squeezed in the ironing board in the same space.

All in all, we got the feeling that they charge mainly for the kitchenette because everything else did not warrant the price.

Staff were lovely and very helpful, the apartment albeit small is very modern, clean and has all the things you need, including decent wifi. Location is good, not too far away from the river and close to the chocolate museum. There are some restaurants nearby but if you want to walk to the locals area where there's great food and loads of restaurants it's only about a 20 minute walk. There is a large supermarket around the corner from the property which is convenient. The only thing that wasn't great is the kitchen, it's modern etc but got very few utensils and it's an induction stove top so even with the window open, you can set of the alarm frying an egg so plan to cook only basic stuff. Overall I'd happily recommend Adagio Koln City and would stay again if I went back to Cologne.

A good mix of an apartment and a hotel. No check-in worries, 24x7 attendants, a great lounge, tourist information, gym, washing machine facility and well-equipped and tastefully designed rooms. Although they have a parking facility it is restricted to 2.0 mtr high vehicles and limited slots available, so we had trouble finding a parking space. Remember to inform them upfront about this requirement.

This place is very well located in a nice part of the town, within a walking distance from the old town. The hotel staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. There was a parking garage just next to the hotel and at least when we were there, there was ample space in the public section of the garage (though in the hotel's section). Curiously, parking in the public section was not any more expensive that it would have been using the hotel's section (both of them at reasonable cost). The rooms were nicely decorated though a bit smallish. Kitchen facilities were OK. Overall, a good stay.
