Having won flights and tickets for the final of the Eurovision Song Contest in Dusseldorf, we struggled to find reasonably priced accommodation within striking distance. This hotel was about thirty miles from Dusseldorf, but reasonably priced, given the huge hike in prices at the time, and close to the motorway system. There is hotel parking for a small charge and plenty of free parking nearby. The surrounding area is residential and there is a small Aldi supermarket in front of the hotel.
This hotel gives off a somewhat tired and elderly appearance from the outside, but our room had been refurbished and was perfectly adequate. Fresh fruit and chocolate had been provided in the room which was a nice touch.
Reception was quite casual and they had to send for someone who could speak English. Well, we were in Gemany and neither of us could remember more than a few words of Geman, so fair enough. We were then issued with our room key without anyone checking if the room was ready, which of course it wasn't. We climbed two flights of stairs to find this out as there was no lift. There was also a very friendly Great Dane in reception who greeted us when we arrived.
The hotel is right next to the tram terminus with a frequent, reasonably priced service into the centre of Cologne for sightseeing.
Buffet breakfast was included in the price and there was a good selection of hot and cold food. We did not use the hotel bar but it did appear to be still open when we returned to the hotel at around 2 am on the Sunday morning.
