My mom and I just left from Cologne today. I highly recommended this hotel because the stuff was friendly to us (who apparently spoke broken German). We were also satisfied that they spontaneously provided us a kettle in the room. I think they really care and think about your needs.
Our room faces the street. Although some people talked a bit loudly on street in the evening, it is quite when we closed the windows. The Internet was quite fast so I was able to plan my trip in Cologne well by checking information in the hotel. And, our room is tidy and cozy with enough light at night. By the way, their breakfast was good with delicious German bread and various jam. The dining place was clean and well-organized.
In sum, I highly recommend this hotel to travelers. We had great time there.

A lovely hotel in an excellent location. The staff are all very welcoming, friendly and helpful. We were greeted each morning with a very good breakfast buffet and a little pamphlet giving us the weather forecast for the day and suggestions for interesting places to visit. Bedroom was small but quite adequate and spotlessly clean and comfortable. Have no hesitation in highly recommending this hotel.

Had 7 glorius nights in the junior suite. The hotel was spotless and the room imaculate. Large bedroom with sofa, flatscreen tv, desk and plenty of space to hang clothes. The bathroom was very big. The room occupied most of the 4th floor and had windows on the front and back so there was nice air circulation. The room had a/c but it was not hot enough when I was there to use. Elevator was quick and quiet. Close to the station and Dom.

Breakfast was a treat with a big choice of food and an automatic coffee machine that I used for coffee latees. Each day featured national speciaties and there was a weather forecast and update booklet prepared every morning.

Michael & Manfred suggested excellent places to eat and my favourite was the Früh am Dom near the cathedral.

Room Tip: Book early and book the junior suite, well worth .

Stayed two nights at the Domstern, which I selected based on other reviews, and was not disppointed. My single room was truly tiny, but well thought out so that space was not an issue. It was clean and very modern. Free wifi worked great. My room overlooked an air shaft, so no view, but was very quiet, even with the window open, which is important as there is no AC. The breakfast buffet was very adequate, and the staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The location is incredibly convenient, only a short walk from the main station. Extremely good value, and I recommend it highly if you don't need a lot of space.

What a lovely clean friendly hotel located close to the main train station and the cathedral. The room was spotlessly clean and had free wi-fi, a safe, bar fridge and hairdyrer ( all high on my personal hotel shopping list). And the continental breakfast has to be seen to be believed, beautifully laid out, fresh and a number of homemade items feature..

Of all of the hotels I've stayed in in recent memory, this has to be the best valued hotel and it's location couldn't be better.

It's clear that the owners and staff are invested in the comfort and enjoyment of the guests. Almost every detail is just a little better than what you might expect. For example, the breakfast had all of the the standard items, but also with homemade preserves and other details that clearly demonstrated thought and care.

The staff was also very helpful with the few requests I made. They even noticed when I didn't turn up at breakfast one more morning -- not because they were being nosy, but just because they were paying attention to their guests and wanted to make sure that I had something to eat. Perhaps you'd get this level of service in a small B&B, but not in a hotel.

I wish there were more gems like this around the world.

Stayed two nights at the Hotel Domstern in Cologne with my honey. We reserved a junior-suite and we were not disappointed. The best part of the room was the bathroom: marble floor, extra large tub, separate shower, bidet, nice vanity and two rubber duckies.

The hotel is a quick five minute walk from the Central train station and a few blocks from the famous Cathedral. The directions from the hotel were accurate and easy to follow. The rate included a German breakfast that was excellent. The homemade bread and local honey were extra special.

Our room number 400 overlooked the quite street and was oversized by European standards. The bed was very firm and the hotel's front desk staff were excellent.

The Domstern is a small boutique hotel and you should not expect the amenities of their five star competitors. Since we paid one-half the quoted rates of the major hotels we considered the Domstern an excellent bargain.

Room Tip: Book a jr. suite from the hotel's website

Dear ronvoyage,
thank you very much for your feedback and for making us number 1 again :-)
It is so amazing that a small and simple 3 star hotel maintains the top spot here at tripadvisor and we are really humbled by this overwhelming response of all our guests!
But to be honest we are also a little concerned and we thank you especially for pointing out that we can not and do not want to compare with our 5 star competitors!
From time to time we have guests who only book us because they find us at number 1 without even reading the reviews- of course they are disappointed because they expect something different. As you said our strength is to offer reasonable rates in our basic 3 star hotel, close to the city center but in a quiet neighbourhood.
We are glad that you had a nice stay in Cologne and we were able to contribute to this favourable experience.
Thank you so much for sharing your impressions and best regards from your hosts
Michael & Manfred
