I can see why there have been so many positive reviews of this hotel. It certainly scores well in terms of location and value. The view from my room of the Dom deserved 5 stars in its own right. However, it is let down by extremely poor Wi-Fi. Its not the strength of the signal that is at fault, but the whole mechanism for connecting which is truly awkward and frustrating even if you do get it working. I could only get one of the three devices I had connected, despite trying separate codes for each of them - yet I had been traveling around Germany for a fortnight without previous issues. They appear paranoid their bandwidth might be abused, but have gone far too far to avoid this. Other positives are the breakfast and the availability of BBC World News as well as the ubiquitous CNN

We would never have found this little hotel but for tripadvisor but it is a real little gem. If, as we were, you are arriving and departing by train then the location is absolutely unbeatable. Add to that friendly hosts and spotlessly clean accommodation and you cannot really beat it. They kindly held our bags for us on our departure day while we went sightseeing before catching a late night train and the breakfast is a feast for only 5 Euros. Admittedly, the room is not large but it is comfortable and very clean - and very quiet - we were really surprised by how quiet given its location. Whenever we are in Cologne we will definitely be staying here again.

Stayed here for a couple of nights. Great location opposite the Koln hbf on the rear side. Easily visible when you come out of the station.

Rooms small but very modern and functional for solo business travellers. The shower lacked water pressure.

Free wifi but the password is sooooo complicated and needs to be re entered every hour or so as it auto disconnects. This was a nuisance but I was explained that it was due to some privacy internet laws.

Breakfast was very good at a very reasonable price at Euro 5 per person. I used it on one day only though.

The elevator was tiny and you can barely fit one suitcase and yourself if you are lucky. This was easily the biggest minus point of the hotel. While coming down I simply took the stairs each time.

I might stay here again due to the convenience of the train station otherwise I may also want to try some hotels in the area for a better comparison of hotel services.

We stayed at the Breslauer Hof Am Dom from the 20th to the 23rd of December 2013. I remember getting off the train and looking across the road and spotted our hotel straight away. It was so close to everything we needed in Cologne and was a great place to base ourselves. The location is perfect, we had the top room which easily housed the four of us with spectacular views across the train station to the Dom Cathederal. The lady on the front desk was warm, welcoming and very helpful. She was always interested in what we had done for the day and even went out of her way to make hot chocolates for the four of us. There was plenty of food close by and we thoroughly enjoyed exploring the Dom and the Christmas Markets from here. A wonderful start to our European Christmas holiday.

Breslauer Hof Hotel Am Dom is a small family hotel. Hitel located steps from Cologne main train station. Hotel has a tiny elevetor. I booked family room which is on the top floor and elevator can not go to that floor. So, we have to drag our luggage on stairs for one level. Family room is big and clean. Bathroom is also clean and equipped with shower and bathtub. Hotel staffs are freindly and can help you to find information you may need.

What I like:
- 2 mins to the Cologne rail station
- Amenities aplenty at Cologne rail station
- Free Wifi in rooms
- Room cleanliness
- Safe available
- No noticeable noise from rail if your room is at the back.

What bothered me:
- No AC
- TV had a prob with the volume even when turned to Max
- Pillow was big, square and too soft even when folded in two.
- Shower did not have a place to put your body wash and shampoo.

If you are traveling by train, and seek a typical 3 star place, this is recommended. Just across from the station, a bit cramped, but on the upside, a friendly family run hotel, breakfast up to German standards and free wifi working well throughout.

Room Tip: My single no 51 had a nice view of the Dom behind the station
