“Simple but good”
Reviewed 26 October 2012

We stayed two days in the hotel. The rooms on the backyard are quiet, and are in quite old fashion German style, but neat.
It's furthermore clean, staff is friendly and prices are very reasonable. A very good location to spend time in the city center.

Room Tip: Rooms on the backyard.

We just returned from Europe and we cannot thank the reviewers on tripadvisor for convicing us to book with this quaint little hotel. It is like a step back in time in this family run hotel, with family photos adorning the hallways. As such in any quaint hotel, you will have some stair climbing to do(there is a elevator for luggage or handicapped people). And in our case we did not have a toilet in our room, but it was a shared toilet three steps down from our door. We never saw anyone else waiting to use the toilet, so it did not bother us, but this is the type of "charm" we look for in booking accommodations. The room did have a shower and sink and beds witht he traditional down comforter. We could not have asked for more and besides, we were not ever there during the waking hours! Breakfast was held in a delightful breakfast room and was hearty: eggs, bacon, sausages, breads, cereals, yogurt and so on. All you wanted. The waitress was delightful as was the front desk man. They could not have been more accommodating. We walked to the Chocolate Museum, the bridge with locks, the Dom and all of the centralized shopping district. We did take the tram to the SeilBahn(zoo there too). If you like to get a German feel while in Germany this is the place! Would go back in a heartbeat

Although it might seem a bit out of the centre of Cologne, the Weber is only 15/20 minutes walk from the Dom, or a short tram and U-bahn trip (tram stop close by). Lots of cheap eating places in Zuelpicher Strasse - we had a very good meal in the Persian restaurant next to the hotel. The staff at the hotel were all extremely pleasant and helpful. The room was fine, (although some might not like the separate WC). Certainly recommended.

The hotel is quite close to the Dom area, easily reached by foot or trams. I stayed in a single room facing the street with the tram tracks. The room was small, with old decor and a shower unit, but no toilet (down the stairs between floors) but enough for sleeping, changing, washing. The heater was not working but it wasn't as cold outside fortunately.
Not a place for late sleepers though. Passing trams didn't wake me up but the house keepers who started their duties quite early (hoovering at 8am and then repeatedly opening and shutting doors of the wardrobe standing next to the room door (linen/cleaning stuff storage?). I was even asked (politely, I admit) if I could leave the room soon so it could be cleaned even though the check out time was 11am and it was not my last day of stay!
And the strangest thing - you get a TV remote with your key when you check in...

Extra points for receptionists who were very kind, helpful and knowledgable.

There's a great spa in a nearby hotel which I discovered by chance - Mauritius Therme. Highly recommended after the whole day of sightseeing.

Good location for those who have done the whole Dom/Altstadt thing and want to try somewhere different but still central.
Good breakfast with hot scrambled eggs, sausages, etc.

No self-respecting 3* hotel still has rooms with shared toilets in the corridor.
My room was at the back of the hotel but the trams rumbling along the street in front of the hotel could still be heard.
Completely ineffective heating - I had the radiator turned all the way up but the room was still freezing. And it was only November!

Room Tip: Ask for a room right at the back of the hotel, far away from the trams

This hotel is right on the tram track but very little noise, the room was very good so was the bathroom, I had breakfast there and I could not fault it or any part of the Hotel ,yes I would go b ack to stay any other time I go back to Cologne, the cost was good also. There are many good shops around to eat or just shop.

Room Tip: I had a room in the front it was very good.
