“Not Bad”
Reviewed 23 November 2013

Beautifully appointed rooms, The most comfortable bed i've ever slept in, Strangely the room is an electricians paradise, Counted 15 light switches!!!!!! Great idea if you know which switch to use!!! No restaurant , [Surely the management are missing an opportunity here?] Supermarket just down the road though. No tea or coffee facilities. Breakfast good value and pretty good too!

Room Tip: May need a room on the ground or first floor, There is only one lift. Takes ages.

Booked this hotel for a five-day business trip to Cologne. The rooms my colleague and myself were given were nothing like the photos on the web. In fairness, the bathroom was clean, but the room was well-worn. Massive stain on the carpet, no drawers, no coffee making, no hairdryer. No food served in the evenings, but they will order in a Pizza for you! No other bars / restaurants nearby, spent a fortune on Taxis to get everywhere. Just wish now i'd paid a bit extra and got a slightly more expensive hotel on the other side of the River. Mixed staff, some helpful, some quite terse, but found that generally wherever we went. Free wi-fi was absolutely rubbish, couldn't cope with the number of people using it, especially when some guests are using Facetime.

I've chosen this hotel because of its proximity to the exhibition (1 km), the problem is that if the weather isn't good the only way to reach it is by taxi. in the hotel's web site there are photos of beautiful rooms, but actually me and my colleague (2 different rooms) had rooms completely different from the ones showed: small, old-styled, not comfortable at all.
the shower was out of order, and even after we told it to the reception they didn't fix it for 48h. each morning we had to wake up 1h before to go having a shower in another room.. not the best way to start a hard day of work! the wi-fi doesn't work in all the rooms.

checked in staff very helpful as we arrived late .We ask about a meal and told no restaurant but they would order pizza ect from a takeaway menu which we did and was fine. However if I had been stopping here a few nights I thing this would have been a problem. As I could not see a restaurant near by. The room I had was on the top floor right by the train track which was fine nicely refurbished and you could not hear the trains go by.(in less you have very sensitive hearing)Bed was good shower at night was warm however but in the morning was lovly and hot.
Breakfast was standard continental well maintained. Wifi work will even in room
Overall clean tidy and affordable

Room Tip: go for top floor

Approached this one with some trepidation. Hotels close to Koelnmesse fill up to capacity very quickly for the Gamescom event in August and yet there was availability here just a few weeks before the event. Reviews suggested that the place was either pretty decent or else little better than a building site! First impressions when I got to the hotel were that the refurbishments were pretty much complete, though the first and second floors looked unfinished compared to the third where I stayed.

The reality is that my stay was perfectly fine. My room - though small and weirdly L-shaped - was perfectly comfortable, the room had recently been refurbished with a decent shower and vast flatscreen and the sound-proofing was decent. It needs to be as many of the rooms - including mine - back out onto the ICE railway line just metres away. However, I'm a really light sleeper yet had no problem sleeping at at all.

Breakfast was a standard buffet, service was fine. My only real criticisms were a non-functioning safe which I reported but was never fixed and the lack of a bath in the shower room. Koelnmesse is vast and after an exhausting day, a long soak would have been welcome. I had a single room and got a single bed. Fine for me but for larger people it could be a bit of a problem.

This hotel won't win any awards but it does the job just fine, the prices weren't too bad and it's a 10-15 minute walk from the Koelnmesse - if you have business there, the Ayun Hotel will work just fine for you.

Room Tip: Make sure you get a refurbished room.

Well, the messe is an excellent argument to over price the service. This hotel is simply standard. The shower is erratic cold hot or hot cold low pressure in the morning... The wifi was not active in the bedroom during my visit. Bed is comfortable, the hotel is clean and people very gentle and helpful. Need a taxi or good shoes to move to U ban, to Messe or Cologne center.

I found the bed to be very uncomfortable, that was the first thing I noticed. The rooms weren't anything to write home about though if you're coming here for holidays then you better find a another travel agent. Our trip was work related and for that it was ok. It had an average buffet each morning, and while it didn't have free wi-fi, it had a free computer with the net.
For business it's ok but then again I wouldn't chose this place again as my first choice.

Room Tip: Don't stay in the rooms above the beer garden if it's a Friday or Saturday night. Things can...
