“Perfect location”
Reviewed 28 October 2013

This hotel is located perfectly - close to the train station, and right in the historic center of the town. Everything is within walking distance.
The rooms are comfortable and clean, the personnel is friendly.
For some reason they still use old keys for the door that you have to leave at the reception every time you leave. I'd have preferred more modern key cards.

This little hotel is in the heart of Cologne. Just a block away from the famous Dom Cathedral. Shops and Resturants abound with choices ranging from local Brauhauses to finer dinning along the Rhine. The rooms are typical European hotel rooms, small but very functional. The breakfast is perfect and the staff are always willing to help. At the end of the day, the weary traveller can always head next door to the Irish pub for a pint just before be.

My wife and I have stayed here with various friends over the last 10 years and always had a very charming time. True the rooms are not huge, but they are clean and we have not found them to be noisy.
The breakfast buffett is execellent and the staff extremely friendly and helpful. Nothing is too much effort.
There is no bar in the hotel, but there are numerous restaurants and bars very close, typical good German food and drink, and a very good "Irish" bar, with 4 screens showing (different) footbal matches 2 doors along.
Papa Joe's Piano bar 2 minute walk not to be missed.
This hotel is right in the centre for everything you could want in Koln City and just cannot be beat for location for the Christmas Markets.
There are some 8 markets that we are aware of and none far from this hotel, 1 right on the door step .

Room Tip: Book early, this is a very poplar hotel

We originally booked to stay for a week but left after two nights. There are noisy "irish pubs" right beside and near it that are open very late and are very noisy. But the main problem was that the internet and wi fi would not work and we needed that for keeping track of our business. So after complaining three times and their indifference to fixing the problem we checked out and went to a different hotel we checked into the Hotel Eden Fruh Am Dom, which had a very superior location, more modern, cleaner and not much more money either.
however they did have an elevator and the breakfast was good

Room Tip: ask for a room that does not look out on to the street to avoid the noise from the nearby pubs

Everything in the single room was working fine and was maintained well, although the furniture would be modern in the '80s. The bath room had an comfortable shower and the breakfast was very nice. Friendly staff. Biggest plus is the location. Excellent hotel for a short stay in Cologne.

I have stayed here twice, but I will try to avoid doing so again because it is hard to get an undisturbed night's sleep in the single rooms at the front of the hotel.
It has lots of good points. The single rooms are typical for Germany - very small and very clean. Tiny but functional bathroom. Very pleasant staff and breakfast is fine.
Noise is terrible - there is a cafe under the hotel that is noisy until midnight, you can hear almost every door slamming in the hotel and every noise from surrounding rooms - including visits to the bathroom. There are two churches nearby that ring bells at all times of the day and night.
We paid more than £100 per night to stay here during the September Kind und Jungend show - too much.

Room Tip: Go for a room at the back

The best thing about this hotel is the location. It is right in the heart of the main old town of Cologne. It is really close to 100's of restaurants and bars and right around the corner is the DOM church and train station.
We arrived by train, so i do not know about parking at the hotel.
The staff was very nice and very helpful. Our rooms were in-suite so they had their own bathrooms. The room was very clean and had great WI-FI. We faced the main road and on Thursday night we slept great, however on Friday night once the bar patrons starting leaving, it got a little loud, but nothing too disturbing. It is a okay pay-off for the location. the price was great, especially compared to some of the hotels surrounding it. I would stay here again in a heart beat. The breakfast in the morning was typical, soft boiled eggs, meats, breads and cheeses.
