Geisler was the only available hotel during my stay due to some big event in Cologne. It was the first sign that it may not be the best idea to stay there.

The only advantage of the stay was that Hotel was located in a walking distance from a Porz-Wahn train station, which in turn is about 5 min long travel from Cologne Airport.

Already front desk reveals the sad truth about hotel, it is simply dated - nothing has been improved since it was built in 1981. Receptionist speaks frankly - only German... (a few English words - does not count) which for some maybe difficult to communicate with.

My room was at 2nd floor (#103) - it was supposed to be a room for non-smokers but it turned to be soaked with cigarette smoke... and the receptionist refused to change it (supposedly all the rooms were booked).

Decor of the room was terrible... (see my photos) it is not on the par with the current European standards. It seemed to me that time stood still from the moment when the hotel was build (1981)... Equipment was sparse and equally dated as hotel. Do not expect a kettle or a bottle of water.

All rooms lack of air-conditioning which in summer is a big issue. Even though thick blinds do not improve the situation... and thanks to them a room looks like a prison cell.

Room #103 was very cramped. Beds were not too comfy and pillows very flaccid. However cleanliness was not an issue.

Free Wi-Fi was not reliable (and slow) when it was working. The time I stayed at the hotel I could only get connected being in the lobby or at the back of the hotel.

Breakfast included in the rate was plain but edible. Nothing I had, was negatively remembered. Waiter service could be improve... restaurant was not full and the waiter was able to figure out whom to serve (e.g. tea or coffee)

The biggest annoyance was the price for a night at 137,5 EUR (!!!) which was a like robbery!

Simply put I would never stay at this hotel from my free will...

Room Tip: Rooms from the back of the hotel are quiet, all day traffic from the street affects ALL rooms located in the front of Garmi.

The Hotel Geisler is located in the Porz-Wahn suburb of Cologne, Germany, about a 20 minute S-Bahn ride from the Hauptbahnhof (Main train station) in the direction towards Bonn. The hotel is a 10 minute walk from the station. There are local bus stops near the hotel, one of which goes to "DLR," the German Air and Space Agency for those who have business there. The hotel is modern and pleasant, being very clean under German standards. Breakfast was included, and it was quite nice, seeing as how it is run in coordination with the attached bakery. There are a few restaurants in the immediate neighborhood, including in the hotel itself, and an excellent beer-hall restaurant with reasonable prices. The staff is friendly and accommodating, and speak English very well. The Internet is free but the bandwidth is marginal for such things as SKYPE.

Room Tip: Be careful, room number with a letter (i.e.408A) are very small.

This hotel is within easy walking distance of the Porz-Wahn S-bahn station, which offers frequent conenctions both to the city and to the airport. So if I can't get in to an hotel in the city, this is my next choice.

Rooms are OK and the WLAN is reliable. But it's a functional rather than luxurious hotel. That said, the staff are very friendly and breakfast is good - there's no restaurant in the evening but the excellent Elzhof is only a few minutes walk away.

Hope to be staying there again soon!

Very welcoming reception, nice and clean hotel, decent sized rooms, comfy bed, close to public transport, freshly baked bread at breakfast, friendly service.

I found it a bit expensive at €68 per night but then again I did book it very last minute

Room Tip: get a room at the back because opposite the front is a huge church with an active bell tower

Several reviewers have mentioned a problem with the curtains - that they don't block light.
Each room at Hotel Geisler is equipped with external shades that block out virtually all light.
Look to the side of your window and you will find a strap stretched the height of the window.
If you release that strap, the external shade will lower. Pull to raise.
gute Nacht!

Room Tip: Great views from the 4th floor!
