We booked this hotel for a short weekend trip to Koln, it is a nice, small hotel, perfect for a short visit .Everything was nice and clean, just be careful with the adress, there are two streets in Koln with the same name...good location .

We stayed three nights 12/30//12 - 01/02/13.

We were there for the New Years Eve fireworks "show" on the Rhine and directly in front of the hotel. It was complete pyro madness for about three hours and a crowd just in the riverfront drag which the hotel occupies probably numbered in the thousands. We had the birdseye view of the spectacular fireworks from our very narrow ledge balcony on the 4th floor overlooking the Rhine and the festivities below. I had seen this room in one of the booking engine web sites and included a request for a balcony room with Rhine. Apparently my scheduling was far enough in advance that to my appreciation the hotel was able to comply with the request.

The breakfast at the downstairs Italian restaurant was a fair value for the 10 euros including coffee, juice, milk, cheese & cold cuts but no cooked meats. We waited to be asked for our egg order, but finally had to inquire whether they served eggs. Then the waiter quite cheerfully took our orders for fried eggs which were fine. It's a satisfactory breakfast but kind of a good thing that it isn't included in the room rate, as we preferred to sleep late and forego the hotel breakfast our subsequent days. There are plenty of places in the area for a brunch or lunch.

The room itself was large, clean and comfortable. The twin beds pushed together were comfortable and didn't have a sliding mattress or separation problem like we have experienced in several four-star places.

A major downside of the room was the tiny bathroom, functional enough but not comfortable and prone to fast flooding from the shower. Plenty of good hot water and water pressure. The bathroom is the main reason I probably would opt for more comfort elsewhere if we should return to Cologne. One other issue is that although the hotel does indeed have an elevator, the elevator stops in between floors so that you have to ascend or descend a short flight of seven stairs to get to or from your room. It's like false advertising or something.

The housekeeping was fine and the desk staff were friendly and courteous. We feel we got good value and a good experience. We dined at the downstairs Italian restaurant for New Years Eve which got packed by the time we arrived for our 8 o'clock reservation. We both had the house lasagna which was not bad and a bottle of good Italian red for 52 euros. Their regular prices are probably more reasonable.

I totally agree with the previous reviews. Great location, value, and staff. Three of the best Christmas markets were within easy walking distance. But here is more information.

First, the location is on the river with night spots that have late music on Saturday nights. Sunday night was quiet. There is no hotel lobby per se, but the building shares a restaurant where the common door is only open for the optional 10 euro breakfast. We opted to eat elsewhere.

Second, the location is tricky but close to the train station if you know how. Do NOT exit the station at the cathedral level but go down a level. Go left and left again UNDER the cathedral plaza and take a right fork until you clear the overpass at the national theatre. Make a left when you clear the plaza overhead and the hotel is a small block away.

Again, this is not a four or five star hotel, but a sensational value. I would stay here again.

Room Tip: River view is awesome except on a Saturday night.

Stayed for one night at Hotel Drei Kronen during December and the busy Christmas Market season. Hotel ideal for one night and a pleasant room over looking the river Rhein, just 5 mins walk from the main station / Dom.
Hotel entrance is on the street to the rear of the riverside area and is a tad tricky to find without a map or gps on your phone. We walked passed the hotel several time before finding the entrance.
Room was clean and tidy.
Didnt have breakfast as this was extra.
Would recommend.

Stayed for 1 night during Orgatec in Octber 2012.Most hotels double or triple theri normal rates, but this one doesn't. Great VFM
It overlooks the river less than 5 mins from the Dom and train station. Also handy for most bars etc close to the Corkonian!!
The hotel is very clean, rooms are better than expected, location central, staff very helpful.
Would highly recommend and stay there again due to location, cleanliness and reasonable rates

Room Tip: Ask for the rooms at the top overlooking the river, tremendous views!!! They are on the 5th floor, d...

We were staying at the hotel for 2 nights. The hotel is perfectly located in the center of the city, few steps from main attraction and railway station. The hotel is situatied in a lovely old building. The staff of the hotel is very friendly and supportive. Room was big enough with fabulous view on the river Rhein and was very clean. There is a free access to internet. The breakfast was tasty with quite enough variety of products so we could find something for ourselves. We enjoyed great atmosphere there.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel last summer for 2 nights. The location is within 5 minutes (walking) from the train station and less than that to the Dom Cathedral. Couple this with the fact that there are countless restaurants, pubs and shops within walking distance and you've got the makings of a fantastic location.

The staff couldn't have been more helpful, either. We were coming from Paris and had some wet clothes due to a washing machine/dryer malfunction and they staff happily took our wet clothes and laundered them free of charge. Along with that they gave us plenty of recommendations on places to eat, visit, drink, shop, etc.

The minor issues that I speak of had to do with sleeping with the windows open. It was unseasonably warm and I don't think there was any air conditioning in the room. To remedy this we cracked the windows (no screens) to get some fresh air before going to bed. I woke up in the middle of the night with bug bites ALL over my legs, chest, arms and face. I turned the lights on and was able to kill easily a dozen bugs (they seemed to be mosquitos, or something closely related). To be honest, this was most likely my fault, but it was an aggravation, none the less. The following night we slept with the windows closed, and it was somewhat warm/stagnant in the room.....but MUCH better than being eaten alive by bugs, haha.

Overall, the next time we're in Cologne we will take a look at the Drei Kronen and make sure that it's not too warm and that we don't open the windows again :)
