We were looking for somewhere to eat in Cologne in the evening, having failed to get a seat in the brauhaus we had been recommended, and came across Delix by accident. It was not an altogether unhappy one. The menu was very international – tapas, curry, risotto, goulash, steak frites etc – so something to appeal to all tastes, and in our experience the food was good. The wine selection was extensive and looked well-chosen, though we stuck to kolsch beer to give our meal at least one local flavour.
In keeping with the international flavour our waiter was from Calabria, Italy, and he thought Cologne was the finest city in Germany. He was charming and our meal was surreally and liberally peppered with prego, grazie, and subito. Sadly, subito was a turn of phrase and not a description of the service – we ended up cancelling our dessert after a long wait. This was surely not the fault of our sunny Italian, but on this night, which wasn’t excessively busy, the kitchen didn’t seem able to keep up. Maybe we were just unlucky.
