My husband stayed in the same hotel a few years ago and recommended it, I think because it was cheap and had a 24hr bar! This time we had our 4-month old baby with us and stayed there for 5 nights.
Parking is free, and a room for 2+1 was very good value at 63 euros a night. Room is air-conditioned. Breakfast was 10 euros extra per person per day, which I didn't take because I was there for a course and never had enough time in the morning to eat there. There was a supermarket and bakery downstairs which opened very early though. There's free computer and printer access, with free internet connection in the lobby which I thought was quite cool. Location-wise it's a short 15min walk away to the centre of town, with easy access to supermarkets and restaurants.
The room was small, with a low double bed and a pullout single. Lots of nice thick rectangular pillows, not like most German hotels with those big flat square ones that do nothing for head support. Comfortable duvet too.The bathroom was functional with a shower, you have to step up a level to get into the bathroom though. Shower pressure ok. Towels a bit frayed round the edges. Nice liquid soap dispenser on the wall. We even got a free razor from Gillette. But other than that no other toiletries available.
Weak points: Carpet sticky and threadbare. Small closet with hanging space. Not much space for a Samsonite suitcase and stroller. No fridge/minibar.
All in all, I thought it was okay for the price and comfort. Free parking was a nice bonus. But if I'm in Dortmund again I'll probably try for another hotel.
