“Beer by the Rhine, not to be missed.”
Reviewed 10 April 2014

The Rhine embankment promenade between Burgplatz and Apollo Platz is a must do when visiting Dusseldorf. Yes I agree the bars are a bit touristy , you will get better food in some of the back street restaurants back in the Old Town, and it does get very busy on a hot summers evening. But the vibe of walking along the Rhine or sitting beside it with a cold beverage always outweighs that. There's quite a lot of choice so always good to walh up and down once to see which one takes your fancy.
If you have the time and want to get away from the crowds then I can recommend to continue to walk north along the river path in the direction of the Nordpark. There are bars and restaurants at intervals accessible from the river side and you can walk through the Nordpark to the U-Bahn station back to the old town.
And if you are into walking then you can carry on around the bend in the river to reach Kaiserwerth, in about an hour and a half with its bars and restaurants and the same U-Bahn connection back into town.

“You can find just about anything your palate desires”
Reviewed 29 July 2013

Great seafood dishes (get the large one for "two" which can easily feed 3-4), flam kuchen, ribs, traditional german dishes, etc, order a beer, glass of wine or a coffee, and just sit back and enjoy the views of the river Rhine and folks strolling along. In cool weather, heaters and blankets provide enough warmth to make it a cozy stop. This is a perfect spot to relax and reinvigorate!

“A nice place for a weekend walk”

It's a little bit overcrowded but I love the atmosphere, a lot of restaurants, a nice view over the river.

“a real part of city life”
Reviewed 28 May 2013

I always like walking along a city river and the Rhine was no exception. Nice views, and nice atmosphere. Lots of people go here to have a drink or just hang out on the steps and the square. The northern side of the Altstadt leads to a part where the steps go down to the water, ending in a little square where performances are done by street artists on busy day. It has a nice atmosphere. Further south is a bit crammed with places to drink. Nice atmosphere too if you like to drink and look at people going by. Food here is average of cours. Even further south it is just a wide and more quiet promenade. So something for everyone. I liked it all because it is really a part of city life here. And I am someone who likes to wander and drink in the atmosphere.
