“What a interesting modern museum”
Reviewed 28 May 2014

The quadriennale dusseldorf 201 has several exhibitions in different museums in Dusseldorf. As part of it I visited the Kunstsammlung Nordrhein-Westfalen K 20 Grabbeplatz.
They have a beautiful exhibition of works by Kandinsky, Malevich and Mondrian. And besides this special the museum has a very intersting collection of modern art. Well worth to visit this museum, right opposite the Opera House.

“K21, a museum with an unusual attraction”
Reviewed 17 December 2013

K21 Ständehaus, build in 1880, is located in the former building of the Landtag of North Rhine-Westphalia. The historic building was rebuilt according to a design by the architects Kiessler + Partner. The result is a modern museum with an impressive transparent canopy. The museum was opened in 2002 under the name K21, a reference to the focus on art of the 21st century.

The building has been carefully restored, the halls and corridors look beautiful. The collection shown is very modern including some very special.
A highlight was the artwork of the Spanish artist Juan Muñoz (1953-2001). The artwork consists of 27 Chinese-looking figures of 140 cm high (see pictures).
Impressive was the work of Kris Martin entitled Künstlerraum, presenting three huge steel crow's feet.
The artwork of Anna Opperman fascinates and consists a very large ensemble drawings, sketches, collages, makeshift sculptures, photographs, found objects, newspaper clippings and notes (see picture).
Bernd & Hilda Becher are known for their beautiful black and white photography of industrial architecture, like water towers (see picture).
Tomás Saraceno has stretched a giant net 25 meter above the plaza. A few big inflated spheres are positioned within this net. Visitors have access to this transparent installation, and can move freely between the spheres. An exciting sight to see people scrambling in the net above the hall like spiders (see pictures).

“Great art gallery!!”
Reviewed 16 November 2013 via mobile

It was a wonderful place to visit. They have awesome art shows. I was impressed by glass which could see many same images by walking through. If the staff didn't showed me, I would not know that. That was really helpful. Alexander Calder's Mobile was amazing as well!! Everything was great, somehow that most of staff stand too close the visitors. Very stressful while enjoying such beautiful arts.

“Glass!”
Reviewed 6 November 2013

The painting galleries are smaller than one presumes from the publicity, but the glass collection and especially the Art Nouveau works are worth the trip
