“Good location and great staff”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 7 June 2014

Stayed at the Best Western Ambassador for a couple of nights after finding a good last minute price on the web. Staff have been outstanding, especially the receptionist was a delight. The room was on the older side, but very clean and everything functioned. I loved their breakfast, a very big choice of cheeses, cold cuts and a couple of good hot options. The buffet was labeled in both German and English. Location wise it is very handy for public transport, being close to the main station. There are plenty of kebab places and some excellent Korean restaurants nearby.

Room Tip: Ask for a room facing towards the rear, there is a noisy tram going by the front of the hotel

I booked this hotel for my husband who was in Dusseldorf on a business trip. The 3 day stay cost €977 for what promised to be a 'modern room with private bathroom and satellite television'. The reality is shown in the pictures below. It is quite understandable that previous reviewers thought that at €25 each per night they were getting great value for money. For €325 per night however, this couldn't be further from the truth. The room was cramped, the furnishings dirty, the old mattresses sagged in the middle and the bathroom looked like something out of a dodgy 1970s film with nowhere to put a wash bag and wires dangling on the wall. The satellite TV didn't work properly and he could only find German TV stations. The reason for the price - the prowein show - which is apparently a licence for Best Western to ask any price, no matter how unreasonable or out of proportion with the facilities on offer. After complaining bitterly about the beds, the hotel admitted that they were aware that those he had been given were completely inadequate but that the new ones they'd ordered for the hotel were too big. They then changed the mattress for the new one - which hung over the divan by about 20 cm making for a precarious night. My husband could have put the mattress on the floor - had there been space - but in this room there was barely room to swing a flea. This is a 'cheap', functional hotel with an adequate breakfast and basic facilities, in a good location for the train station and the trams. It is not a 'clean, modern room with satellite TV' worth over €300 per night.

I stayed in a Triple Room with 2 friends for 1 night on the 31st Jan. We only paid £25 each.

Location wise, only a 5min walk from the Main Train Station & its underground, which is only a couple of stops from the Old Town.......being so close to the Station, means a source of beer & pizza 24hrs a day!

Check-in was quick and the girl on reception on Friday evening was the most happiest receptionist I have ever met!, she was on the verge of laughing, she was so happy!

The triple room is in fact 2 x singles pushed near enough together and a sofa-chair, my friend said the sofa-chair was 'surprisingly comfy' and the room was a really good size. The highlight for me...a mini-pack of Haribo on your pillow!!! Plnty of towels and the room was very clean.

I have stayed in a few 3* Hotels near Dusseldorf Station all of a similar price...and this one was easily the best, as it 'felt' like a hotel, was spacious...and free Haribo!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the noise of the trams might keep you awake

Fine rooms and good breakfast.
The beds aren't great but the shower and overal cleanliness make up for it.
Not enough parking spots to accommodate all guests.
Fine location - we were able to walk to the altstadt in about 20 minutes

This was our first visit to this hotel, which we chose based on trip adviser reviews.
Very nice hotel with helpful friendly staff.
Big rooms very clean.
Private car park, central location and a good price.

Main train station just a few minutes walk with easy transport options.

Having travelled a lot in GermanyI found this hotel to be of a good standard of cleanliness, comfort and convenience. The room was warm and comfortable in December. It was excellent value for money. This is what I expect in most German hotels and I am rarely disappointed. The reception staff were friendly, multi-lingual and helpful when asked. The location is not pretty, a dull side street, but was within easy walking distance of trains, trams and buses. So it was super for getting round the city and for us to visit christmas markets.
Only two minor gripes for the management to address:
1. The hotel folder states that free tea and coffee are available in reception 24/7. When we asked for it there was none available and the receptionist had to put on a machine which would be ready for us on our return, sometime later.
2. On arrival, our room safe was locked and the receptionist did not understand how to re-open it. We have had this situation in other hotels and the staff had been trained to sort the problem.
Nevertheless I would still recommend this hotel for seasoned travellers who simply want clean beds and bathrooms in a convenient location without breaking the bank.

Room Tip: Back rooms are quiet. Trams pass the front and may annoy fussy travellers.
