Stayed here for two nights this week. My favourite thing was the breakfast – a good choice including cereals, fruit, bread, yoghurt, cold meat, cheeses, eggs, hot sausages and a variety of teas. Even bits and bobs like olives and gherkins and a strangely addictive creamy substance called 'meat salad'. I lingered for ages trying everything! I've had worse breakfasts at more expensive hotels.
The location is handy for the station (10 minutes' walk); it's a brisk 20-minute walk to the old town and Rhine, but I felt safe enough walking to and from the old town at night.
The décor and furniture in the reception and breakfast room are very dated and make the place appear rather gloomy. And there are artificial flowers and plants everywhere – adding to the old-fashioned impression. Fake flowers to me scream 'not fresh!!', which is the last image hoteliers would want to create. Ever willing to eat, I was nearly caught out by the realistic-looking plastic grapes in reception!
But the staff are friendly and helpful. And the bedroom was a nice surprise – plain white walls, wood-effect floor and everything clean and neat. I liked the nice touches of the magnifying make-up mirror and the complimentary slippers.
The shower took an age to heat up but patience paid off and the water came hot in the end.
I got two nights including breakfast for 118 euros through an online booking site. I'm not sure how that compares with other hotels in the area. The hotel literature says you can get cheaper prices by booking direct, so that might be worth a try.
