“DDR style room, one additional notch for breakfast”
Reviewed 11 April 2014

Stayed in the hotel for one night, located in quiet area in the south district of Dusseldorf.
Lobby is small but pretty ok, first surprise I was given a single room in the basement (level -1), quite large but DDR style furniture, I guess you might collect all stuff in Ikea and spend less than 50 €. Small old TV set above bed, definitely unacceptable. Bathroom was ok, with shower.
Breakfast was above poor expectations, good choice of ham, cheese, eggs, croissants, cakes.
Kind waitresses. One star more for free wifi.

Bit out of the way and not as easy to reach as you'd hope. The hotel's price range unfortunately also seemed to attract some lower class guests that were mostly drunk and obnoxious creating alot of noise both outside and inside the hotel with no appearant intervention from hotel staff. Rooms are very basic but clean. Light in bathroom was on a sensor that was either too sensitive or malfunctioning which turned showering into some kind of light flashing disco. Breakfast was good with a good selection.

We have used this hotel during the Medica trade fair for the last 6 or 7 years. We find the location very convenient - an easy journey to Messe Düsseldorf by 712 Strassenbahn and U78 U-Bahn. During this trade fair the U78 gets extremely crowded but that applies to everyone exhibiting and the traffic jams make the roads even worse.

The rooms are spotless and cleaned daily. Beds and showers fine. WiFi can be a bit difficult to access but ok.

The staff are simply wonderful; nothing is too much trouble and they are so friendly. It gives an interesting measure of the hotel that very few of the staff have changed in all the time we have been there over the years. That indicates a happy staff and good management.

Breakfasts are fantastic and worth getting up early for to linger over that extra pot of tea or coffee.

I would frankly stay there even if it was not for business.

Just one further point - there are 2 local good restaurants: Pizzeria Romina on Aachener Straße - but it is tiny so book! Then the Restaurant Weise in the Himmelgeisterstraße is very different - quite large but fun, an easy walk and superb wide menu (only in German - this is a suburb not tourist area). When it gets less hectic the staff are lovely but do expect some attempt to speak German. Again it is heaving so book!.

Room Tip: Try to avoid the rooms overlooking the Südring as there is heavy traffic and this could be problemat...

With tram 712 you are in the centre in 10minutes. (the stop is called Sudring, in the centre get out on HeinrichHeineAllee. You can buy the tickets in the tram, but only with coins)because of the fast travel to Altstadt i would recommend the hotel. The rooms where a bit old, but clean ans nice beds. The breakfast (€9,-) is good. If you go in the city: visit the brauhaus Uerige, and the restaurant Altstadt is also very good. Have fun!

Went to the Astra Hotel, as most of all hotels were booked for the dates due to a large conference in Düsseldorf. The price/quality of the hotel is good.

The rooms are simple and contain the basic elements necessary. They are clean and fulfill the need for a 1 night stay. Make sure you avoid the rooms that are at the communal area around the elevators (most of the floors 1 room), you'll hear all the people walking by.

Breakfast is luxury with a wide range of choices in bread, cold buffet and warm buffet. Around 4 sorts of bread and delicious tapas buffet. Several sweet items included too. Breakfast room feels a bit crampy, but is OK if not busy.

Entry hall had some renovations while I visited, but were not disturbing. Friendly staff (students in "ausbildung" (sort of internship) gave me some recommendations where to eat. Make sure you visit at the other side of the road the ice-cream shop Unbehaun: great quality.

Overall OK, but I can imagine some might feel themselves a bit unsafe. Unlighted path way towards the public transport. Personally would recommend to just use the car.
