“Beautiful hotel and Great people!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 21 April 2014

We stayed in Hotel Achenbach with my husband on the easter weekend and we had a lovely time. The hotel is very beautiful, with great decorations and perfect quality. The most important thing though is the stuff: very friendly (genuine friendly) and helpful. I would certainly visit it again and totally recommend it.

This hotel is fabulous. The location is perfect; easy to travel around the city via the nearby public transport, but also easy to stay home and walk to lovely restaurants. The breakfast is delicious, and the staff is very helpful.

In fact, the staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable, despite our inability to follow instructions. As we now know, it clearly states on the hotel's webpage that parents are discouraged from bringing children to the hotel (the gorgeous furnishings in our room made it easy to understand why this would be requested). However, we made our reservation without reading the website, and asked if we could bring our 10-month-old with us. Not only was the hotel willing to accommodate us, after a brief discussion over the telephone, but they also did more for us than most hotels that claim to welcome families. The room was a perfect size and location for our daughter to crawl around and burn energy, and the breakfast room had a lovely high chair so that she could join us for the morning meal.

Then, as new parents do, we left in a hurry and forgot our camera on top of the wardrobe. Not only did the hotel staff locate it immediately, but they were also willing to mail it back to us for a very small fee!

We are so enormously grateful to the staff at Hotel Achenbach, it seems only fair to recommend them as often as possible. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Dusseldorf, and will compare all other hotels to this gem for a long time coming.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay - very relaxing main floor room with en-suite shower and view of the street. Large room and comfortable bed. We walked to the old town for a drink and dinner. The hotel is located in a residential area but just off a main street with trams and busses. Good selection of items for breakfast with view of garden. Very warm and helpful staff.

Room Tip: All the rooms are quiet as you are in a residential area.

I stayed at Villa Achenbach in Dusseldorf for two nights. The experience of my stay perfectly matched the glorious weather that was there.
Everything in this hotel was to a high standard. It is a perfect place for a quiet individual, romantic couple, mature couple, a family. The owner, Alexander and his wife, plus the staff are all truly professional and extremely friendly - you feel their warm and hospitality. Attention to Detail is what impresses as well. If I am in Dusseldorf again, this is my definite place to stay!

Room Tip: The hotel has a gorgeous b'fast room but there is no restaurant (well the hotel is relatively sm...

We just returned from Dusseldorf. This was an excellent property. The hotel is impeccably maintained and you can see pride and attention to detail in every aspect. The rooms are incredibly well groomed and quite comfortable. The weather was cool, so we did not sample the availability of AC. The staff is attentive and quite helpful with directions and arrangements. There are a couple of restaurants close by to walk for dinner as the hotel only serves breakfast. The breakfast entailed warm eggs, fresh pastries, cheeses, fruit, juices, and coffee/tea. It was served 7-10 weekdays and 8-10 weekends. They were responsive to e-mail from the US and answered promptly. It is a totally smoke free facility. Smoking guests smoked outside when needed. The building was a private dwelling for the Achenbach family in the past and was transformed to a hotel in the 50's. I did not count the total number of rooms, but think it is less than 50 or so. Mr. Achenbach was an artist and faculty member at the Dusseldorf Art School when still alive. Overall, we were very pleased. It is a quiet facility, perhaps best for couples and adults or older children. Room electricity is controlled by the room key as is most of Europe and there is no charging of phones/devices when the key is not in the holder by the door, so don't forget to charge at night. Free Wi/fi available, but a code is provided that is good for one device per person ... no way to cheat and use if for your phone and I-pad both as it only recognizes the original device even if you try to log out. There did not appear to be a lift/elevator, but the staff kindly carried our bags to the room on the top floor. It is located away from the central area, but tram/bus is very convenient at the corner and goes to Alstadt (old town) and the central train station. Taxi's are easily arranged by the staff as well and the best way we found too and from the Airport, cost about 20 Euro and took about 20 minutes. The street is stately and lined with old trees. It is a safe and quite neighborhood suitable for running if you so desire and easily one of the better groomed streets that we encountered in the city. We will stay there again if we return to Dusseldorf and can't speak highly enough of the facility and its staff.
