Set in a handsome townhouse, a ten-minute cab ride from the city centre (€2.50 will get you a tram ride, which is more fun), this hotel is a real find. Our ground-floor room overlooking the garden was grandly proportioned, the decor traditional (apart from a smart contemporary bathroom), the housekeeping immaculate. There is a real attention to detail in the way this hotel is run; they seem genuinely to enjoy making your stay as pleasant as possible. There are also a couple of very nice local restaurants which the friendly owner will point you towards. Highly recommended.

We stayed in Hotel Achenbach with my husband on the easter weekend and we had a lovely time. The hotel is very beautiful, with great decorations and perfect quality. The most important thing though is the stuff: very friendly (genuine friendly) and helpful. I would certainly visit it again and totally recommend it.

This hotel is fabulous. The location is perfect; easy to travel around the city via the nearby public transport, but also easy to stay home and walk to lovely restaurants. The breakfast is delicious, and the staff is very helpful.

In fact, the staff went out of their way to make our stay enjoyable, despite our inability to follow instructions. As we now know, it clearly states on the hotel's webpage that parents are discouraged from bringing children to the hotel (the gorgeous furnishings in our room made it easy to understand why this would be requested). However, we made our reservation without reading the website, and asked if we could bring our 10-month-old with us. Not only was the hotel willing to accommodate us, after a brief discussion over the telephone, but they also did more for us than most hotels that claim to welcome families. The room was a perfect size and location for our daughter to crawl around and burn energy, and the breakfast room had a lovely high chair so that she could join us for the morning meal.

Then, as new parents do, we left in a hurry and forgot our camera on top of the wardrobe. Not only did the hotel staff locate it immediately, but they were also willing to mail it back to us for a very small fee!

We are so enormously grateful to the staff at Hotel Achenbach, it seems only fair to recommend them as often as possible. I wouldn't stay anywhere else in Dusseldorf, and will compare all other hotels to this gem for a long time coming.

We enjoyed our 2 night stay - very relaxing main floor room with en-suite shower and view of the street. Large room and comfortable bed. We walked to the old town for a drink and dinner. The hotel is located in a residential area but just off a main street with trams and busses. Good selection of items for breakfast with view of garden. Very warm and helpful staff.

Room Tip: All the rooms are quiet as you are in a residential area.

I stayed at Villa Achenbach in Dusseldorf for two nights. The experience of my stay perfectly matched the glorious weather that was there.
Everything in this hotel was to a high standard. It is a perfect place for a quiet individual, romantic couple, mature couple, a family. The owner, Alexander and his wife, plus the staff are all truly professional and extremely friendly - you feel their warm and hospitality. Attention to Detail is what impresses as well. If I am in Dusseldorf again, this is my definite place to stay!

Room Tip: The hotel has a gorgeous b'fast room but there is no restaurant (well the hotel is relatively sm...
