We stayed at the hotel achenbach for 4 nights. The staff was so helpful. The rooms were spacious and very nice. It was probably the nicest hotel we have stayed in while visiting Europe. We had a delicious breakfast every morning which was included in the price. The hotel was convenient and walking distance to train station.
We will definitely suggest this hotel to anyone who is visiting the area.

We had a very pleasant mid-July stay at Hotel Villa Achenbach . This is a boutique hotel that is a former mansion with nice homey feel to it. The hotel is in Flingern Nord, not the city center or Altstadt and this is a major plus from our point of view .Flingern Nord is a small and residential yet hip and artsy neighborhood with some really interesting shops and some excellent restaurants. ( try a walk along Ackerstrasse and LindenStrasse) Lots of 1890s-1900s Art Nouveau buildings, in this mostly quiet neighborhood, made for some very nice walks. While the hotel guests seemed to be mostly business travelers, I think urban explorers will also enjoy being here.

As others have mentioned, you will need to be prepared for stairs or request a first floor room if stairs are an issue. Likewise, if you are looking to be in the center of the action, are a party-animal, or have mobility or related issues, you may wish to stay in Altstadt or the Konigstrasse. But for us, the hotel’s location was ideal as it is located in an interesting neighborhood but close enough to Altstadt with its sights, museums and bars.

Altstadt is only a 30-45 min walk*, 15 min tram or 10 minute cab ride away. You can find places for nightlife in Flingern, ( and a great vegan restaurant, Sattgruen) but it won’t be the late-night and boisterous (read: drunk tourists) Bourbon street-like atmosphere of much of Altstadt. We had fun in Altstadt, but we were glad we didn’t stay there.

Beyond the location, the reasons we like and recommend the Villa Achenbach hotel are:
Excellent room:
Quiet hotel. Slept well. Clean, large room with a comfortable true king bed (not the two twin beds put together which you will find in many many other places), clean nice bathroom, and good shower

Friendly and helpful staff:
From dependable and thorough local advice ( how to use the seemingly-confusing- but-actually-easy tram) to lugging our VERY heavy bags upstairs without a complaint, the hotel staff were great.

Good breakfast
Good quality and lots of options.

Good value
The price was reasonable for the quality of rooms, food and service.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in Düsseldorf and can thank Hotel Achenbach for much of that. We look forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: *note: at night, if you are walking back from the Altstadt, you may want to take cabs or public tr...

I stayed at this hotel for a week in March after having spent a week at Hotel Friends and checking out. This place was a breath of fresh air - I had the smallest room there, which was just a single bed. The room was comfortable, very clean, and had a nice old world character about it. The breakfast, which is included, is delicious, and the price is very reasonable for Dusseldorf. Tip - call them directly to book and you may get a better price than advertised.

Though it's down a quiet side street, there are several tram stops half a block away and it's a quick trip to the Alstadt. Be prepared to walk stairs - there's no elevator.

Overall, will definitely return the next time in Dusseldorf!

In the middle of a long business trip to Europe, I picked this small independent hotel in Dusseldorf to break up the monotony of boring corporate hotels. It was perfect. Though I booked the smallest room in the hotel, it was nice, comfortable, modern and new. It was also quite affordable.

The room itself was clean and well appointed. Nice new modern bathroom and a comfy twin size bed. Free bottled water in the room and the breakfast was nice.

The best part of this weekend in Dusseldorf was the location. This hotel is on a leafy residential street not far from the hustle and bustle of city center, but it was perfectly quiet day and night. Whats even better, is that the hotel is right on the main train line to the old town and only a few stops from the Main train station. It really couldn't have been a better compromise.

One tip, quite near the main station, I rented a bicycle and really enjoyed touring the city from the bike. Its a very bike friendly city and the best use of 10 euros.

Room Tip: I would select a room on the first floor.

From the moment we walked into this beautifully restored and renovated old suburban villa. Gracious and helpful service and a beautiful room (35!) made for an almost perfect weekend in this lovely city. We didn't let the raindrops keep us from enjoying and exploring the area. Don't let the location deter you - Hotel Achenbach is only a block away from public transportation. The tram system is easy to maneuver and adds to the 'slice of life' part of being there. Skip the big box hotels closer to the Alstadt (old city) and enjoy a quiet, calm, local experience in a lovely small hotel. A tasty breakfast and good coffee was included in the reasonable rate. Just be prepared to climb stairs. There is no elevator. Our beautiful 3rd floor room was worth the climb (and helped to burn off a few extra calories we managed to pick up in Dusseldorf!) Thanks to Anna and staff for a personal, warm and memorable experience.

Room Tip: No elevators. Be ready to climb a lovely grand staircase.

We got to know the hotel through friends who live close by and loved it so much last time that we stayed again this time. The location is great, easy access to public transport and in a quiet residential street lined with huge trees. If lucky, you can even watch squirrels over breakfast.
This time, our room again was perfect, albeit a bit on the warm side. But, as apparently they were fully or close to fully booked, we had to make a reservation for breakfast and still could hardly find a space. We understand the facility for breakfast is being amplified, which is really necessary. Otherwise, the buffet offers a limited choice of cold and warm delicacies and coffee is great.
In a nutshell, we will come again, but only AFTER termkntion of amplification of the breakfast salon.

I booked a room to Hotel Villa Achenbach based on reviews. This hotel is simply great! It is truly beautiful, extremely peacefull and spotlesly clean. Staff is really putting a lot of effort to offer perfect experience for customers. Location is on a high end residental area walking distance from downtown and Altstadt. If you don't like walking trams are available one block from hotel or only couple of minutes by taxi. I honestly can't think anything to critizise about this hotel. You feel like you are a guest of royal family. Breakfast was extremely good also. I spend a lot of time on different hotels every year. In my books this little gem of a hotel is 5 stars. I don't even concider any other place when in Dusseldorf next time.
