“OK location for price, but ...”
Reviewed 15 December 2012 via mobile

Stayed here one night on a business trip ... arrived Sunday afternoon and could find no one in the restaurant (even though something that smelled wonderful was cooking on the stove) or in hotel office ... later learned that the office is only open part time ... communication was spotty at best ... maybe because of language differences, but more their internal system I think ... Be careful and clear ... My reservation had been made by a colleague in Germany, but somehow my name was in the book twice ... And FYI, they also do not take American Express ...
Rooms were clean and had no problem ... very good for a 1 or 2 night stay ...
Location was great to explore the downtown and river front area of Dusseldorf ... Just a street or two over are plenty of restaurant choices ... and if there around the holidays, the Christmas Market is close by ...
As noted in other reviews, access is tough as it is located on a non-traffic street ... since I travel lite, it was no problem to make the 1.5 block walk to the hotel, but if you have much luggage, not very convenient. The same goes for not having an elevator ... no need for a gym and stairmaster here.

Stayed November 2012, travelled on business

There's is no elevator -I think they should be more upfront about that on their site. We dragged 8 suitcases up 4 flights of stairs.
Stayed there with friends and although the staff is nice and means well -the hotel is not a "hotel" -it's basically a Bed and Breakfast. WiFi is free and they issue as many WiFI codes are you want. 50% of "hotel" staff (meaning a young girl half in the main "front desk" room and cleaning the breakfast room speaks English. Rooms are nice and clean as shown on sites. Flat screen TV is like 18" but it works -no English channels except one.
BIG NEGATIVE: There was no hot water in ALL rooms for at least 2 days in a row and the manager (who yes is very cool and funny) did not even give us a discount or comp us something in their restaurant.
The lobby restaurant has amazing food -a bit high for the area, but it's a good vibe and the staff does almost speak English.
All visitors note, the hotel is located on a street with NO car access = you drag your luggage to the corner. And it is directly across from the beautiful St. Andreas Church -which is undergoing a multiyear renovation so come 8AM there's banging and sawing and workmen noise 15 feet away for hours.
In short, would recommend if you have one bag, know Dusseldorf already, don't plan on being in your room from 8AM to 5PM and don't need a front desk service type of hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for rooms one the lower levels so you don't have to drag your luggage up ceramic tiles stair...

As experienced travellers to the business hotels of Dusseldorf the Alstadt had always been a 20 Euro ride away...what a find just a minute from many bars and varied restauraunts. We most definately will use this hotel again. One of our freinds who lives downtown Dusseldorf walked back with us and commented that the Restauraunt of St Andreas is regarded as one of the best tradtional eateries in the Alstadt. The owner allowed us to leave our luggage for the day too. We will most definately be back. Our room clean, spacious and comfortable with complimentary fruit and water.

Room Tip: Go direct to owners and request balcony room.

Sankt Andreas is a small familytype hotel in the middle of the old town of Dusseldorf. We had a nice room with balcony and an absolutely beautiful bathroom for a very reasonable price . The owners of the place were more than friendly and helpfull with everything.
The hotel is just a few steps away from the Rhine Boulevard and in a couple of minutes you're in the middle of the posh shopping area. And all around are places to drink and eat. It's very close to the main drinking/eatingstreet of the Old Town, Bolkerstrasse. We weren't very impressed; a lot of cheap, touristplaces. Some of the sidestreets (one completely filled with Spanish restaurants) had some nice surprises. We had two wonderful meals in the restaurant on streetlevel, belonging to our hotel. Not expensive and very tasty German food.
And for a hotel in the middle of the buzz it was exceptionally quit during the night. Maybe it's not such a good idea to stay here when you have problembs climbing stairs, because there is no lift.
For the rest it was excellent. Also the breakfast, in a cozy small room with - if the weather is nice - a small terrace to sit.
And you can't do anything else then fall in love with their wonderfull dog Franzl.
If I ever return to Dusseldorf I would prefer this cozy, little place above all the posher boutique and expensive hotels in town. Location, atmosphere, great food and friendly people. What do you need more???

I stayed here for 2 days and it is a lovey hotel. The rooms was bright and spacious , well laid out, a shared balcony near the top of the hotel. The bathroom was spacious and bright.
Breakfast was between 0700 and 0930 and was laid out well.
The staff were very helpful and friendly.
Beware there is no lift and the entrance to the restaurant next door is the same entrance used for the hotel.
The U is 5 mins walk from the hotel .
The location was perfect in the Alstad and near the Konigsallee for shopping and the tourist office was not far either.
I would definitely come back to this hotel.

Room Tip: One at the top of the hotel less noise.

It's not easy to find a clean, reasonably priced hotel with modern updates, excellent service and staff in heart of the Aldstadt (Old Town), Dusseldorf but Hotel Sankt Andreas is just that! Add to this a very good breakfast service, excellent food in the Benders Marie restaurant, free wi-fi and you just can't go wrong here! We came to visit the Christmas markets (our 6th time ) and to shop so it was perfect for us...the markets were close by and Koningsallee was a short walk. The U Bahn was also very close by. The area has so many cafes and restaurants to choose from as well! The hotel is also located on one of the quieter streets in the area. We have stayed at higher end and expensive hotels in Dusseldorf but we will come back to Hotel Sankt Andreas!

Room Tip: The rooms on the street side are a bit bigger but the backside with the shared balcoony may be quiet...
